Colors and patterns add a lot of life and personality to your home. But it’s difficult for many of us to know where to start. We fear making mistakes and getting our homes too busy or messy. I felt that after moving into a home where colours and patterns were accepted, I was called to make the most of their potential. I realized I like being surrounded by colors and patterns more than I thought.
After five years living with an eclectic and colorful house, I learned that the benefits of adopting colors and patterns are not as easy as using my favorite colors, but this helps. Colors and patterns are tools that evoke emotions beyond their aesthetic properties, evoke the mood and atmosphere of signals, create dynamic visual flow, and make your home even more functional and enjoyable.
I stopped thinking of colors and patterns as either “liked” or “hate” and instead embraced them as a design tool to fully express ideas. This can benefit from the basic principles that we knowingly use, even if we are not interested in big, bold colors and patterns.
In this post I will begin by exploring the emotional reasons why it’s difficult to be brave with colours and patterns. And we’ll give you some tips on how to get started and improve it.

Why is it so difficult to be brave with colors and patterns?
There are several reasons why it’s difficult to step outside our comfort zone and use colours and patterns at home.
- The fear of making mistakes. I’m worried that we’ll choose the wrong colours and patterns and make our home look ugly.
- The fear of being judged. We are worried about what others think about our homes if our homes are too colorful and patterned. We all have that intentional statement about something that is very “we” rather than “them” and not “we” than “them” rather than “them” and is very “we.” And sometimes we are people who completely misunderstand it! It’s time to let go of it all. Doing our own things means people comment. And that’s fine. Let me do them. Being yourself encourages others to be brave with their own expressions, and ultimately benefits us all. Be the one who starts that tendency.
- Lack of confidence. We don’t trust our preferences and are afraid to make bold choices. Let’s face it. Most of us are not color experts! With a huge selection of colors to choose from, it’s easy to make yourself psychological.

How to get started with colors and patterns
If you’re ready to start incorporating more colors and patterns into your home, here are some tips:
- Start small. Don’t try to overdo it at once. Start with a few small changes, such as adding colorful throw pillows to your couch or hanging patterned curtains in your bedroom.
- Choose your favorite color and pattern. Don’t worry about trendy things or things that others like. Choose colors and patterns that will make you happy and reflect your personality.
- experiment. Don’t be afraid to try out different colors and patterns. Try different combinations and see what you like the best.
- Trust your gut. The first thing you are drawn is often the right path to follow. Trust that.
If you’re not sure about anything, do it in your intestines. You will make the right choice.
Several ways to improve the use of colors and patterns
The more you work with colors and patterns, the better you will be with it. There are several ways to improve your skills.
- Find inspiration. Find inspiration in magazines, books and online. Note how different colors and patterns are used in different spaces.
- Take the class. If you are serious about learning how to use colors and patterns, consider taking classes. This is a great way to get expert advice and learn from others.
- Practice, practice, practice. The more you practice using colors and patterns, the better you will be with it. So don’t be afraid to experiment and enjoy!
