Where is your next manicure inspiration? When I got a copy of Fresh set Brooklyn-based beauty writer Tembe Denton-HurstI knew I would hit the nail inspo jackpot. The book highlights 35 artists from Los Angeles to India. They push the boundaries with 3D sculptures of mushrooms and dragonflies, moss-covered nail-like pieces with 7-inch rose red stiletto nails.
It was the long-standing love of Tembe acrylic that inspired the book. “When I saw the long purple nails leaving my first nail schedule behind, it was the first time I thought, ‘Oh, my hands are so cute,'” she says. “They’ve become exciting because they are strictly functional. Now their long nails are part of me.”
but also? Realizing how nails are tied to identity. “Nail art is at the heart of the way black and brown women decorate themselves,” Tembe says. “Growing up, the most beautiful woman was flying nails. Keeping your hair and nails complete is a form of communication. You are put together and you care about the same thing.”
Here, Tembe tells you about nail trends, low maintenance look, and the rules for five salon etiquette…

“People love Aura Nails right now,” Tembe says. “Everyone’s nails look like mood rings. I’m asking the usual owners. My trusty salon What people are coming. She says her clients are obsessed with charm and 3D elements. The almond had a long pointed stiletto, but the square claws have also returned. ”

About game-changing artists:
“I love you Leslie Alanyaga’s work. She uses Mexican heritage – for example, she did a series of nails placed on relatives, Including her dad. It was playful, nostalgic, and clearly rooted in her culture. She also created it Resin bubble with her dog portrait. Her designs always have a unique perspective. I don’t think this is something you’ll find in any kind of art, but especially in the nail space, the style has become popular on Pinterest and suddenly anyone can replicate it. She is also a very talented sculptor. She builds Spammusubi as a whole For natural nails! ”

With a low maintenance look:
“I’ve always had multi-color French tips, one of which is lazy. The French tips hide their growth, so they look pretty decent even after weeks.

Tembe’s Salon Etiquette:
1. Arrived in time for your reservation. “Even if you make it five minutes late, you might still be moving your nail tech day 10 minutes before. Then those 10 minutes will be 20 minutes. My nail technology is mom. If you’re late, adjust your design to make up for the time.”
2. Do not call the speaker. “I’ve been guilty of answering a phone, pressing the speaker icon, then placing my hands under the UV light. But let’s bring headphones. The salon is a public space and people are relaxing.”
3. Arrived with a clear sense of what you want. “If you want something specific, book a reference image and a colour in mind. This can lead to too much time for nail technology and end up being victimized by another client.”
4. Become friendly. “Of course, you’re always learning the name of Nailtech. It’s important to be connected with people you’re often seen and to recognize them as individuals who live beyond the scope of their services.”
5. If you are unhappy with your nails, please talk. “I know this will make people nervous, but nail technology promises you to say, ‘Hey, I don’t like seeing this.’ So they can fix your nails rather than coming back to fix your nails the next day, unhappy.
