How are you, Minneapolis readers? we are watching news And I’m always thinking about you. A friend of mine who lives in south Minneapolis said ICE came to his daughter’s school last week. The operatives threw the vice principal to the ground, fired tear gas into the crowd, and took away two teachers and a student. Council President Elliot Payne said: new york times “It feels like a military occupation.”
When I asked a friend this morning what the city was like, she replied:
“I’m scared. I’m sad. I’m furious. I don’t ever think these ICE tactics will go down in history. There is a strong community spirit here, and we do our best to look out for each other. Sometimes I get numb to the injustices of the moment, but then I watch the video and just scream out loud. I feel a different impulse at each moment. My strongest instinct is to ask, ‘Who will be able to feed?'” Who is suffering now? Schools are collecting food, toilet paper and household items for people who are afraid to leave their homes. I also have a strong instinct to be a witness and ensure the safety of my children and neighbors. My brain can cope with the absurdity of this inhuman upside-down world by confronting it with more absurdity. Now, instead of yelling “fuck you,” I fantasize about going up to ICE agents and asking them a series of stupid questions like, “So, what do you like most about your job?” Hey, can you please stop the people who are trying to work here? Hey, when you guys are done here, can you go to the border and stop all the ounces of fentanyl coming out of Canada? ”In the end, I sincerely hope that cooler and kinder minds will prevail. ”
If you would like to share, I would love to hear it. If you live in Minnesota, how are you feeling? If you’re watching the news elsewhere, how are you feeling? Which news sources and outlets do you find useful? (We regularly ask The Daily and pod save america. ) and Here’s how you can help people in Minneapolis and St. Paul. As always, sending you lots of love.
