This homemade grape salad recipe couldn’t be easier as it only requires 5 ingredients. It can be made in about 10 minutes including cooling time. I love the combination of crunchy fresh grapes, sweet cream cheese, and crunchy nutty toppings. It might seem like an odd combination to some, but it feels very Midwestern to me.
Grape salad is one of those dishes that reminds me of big holiday family meals, potluck dinners, or cookout picnics. Of course, the word “salad” is used quite liberally here. It is very similar to ambrosia salad or Watergate salad. It’s more like a slightly sweet fruit side dish than a leafy salad.

material
- seedless red grapes
- cream cheese (softened)
- greek yogurt
- brown sugar
- Spiced walnuts or pecans

How to make grape salad
Wash the grapes and remove them from the stems. Set aside to dry.
Combine softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, and brown sugar. If you want your creamy mixture to be completely smooth without lumps, we recommend using an electric mixer and blending the cream cheese alone first, then the other ingredients. Personally, I don’t think it makes a big difference if there is a little lump. Call me lazy, but adding nutty toppings makes it look less smooth anyway.
Stir the cream cheese mixture with the grapes until they are completely coated. Chop the nuts and sprinkle on top.
Chill the salad for at least 30 minutes so everything is cold before serving.

Notes and alternatives
- I like to use all red grapes, but you can also use a mix of red and green, or all green. However, I stick to seedless grapes no matter what color I choose.
- If you want it lighter, use lower-fat cream cheese.
- I like to use Greek yogurt, but sour cream works just as well.
- I like to use spiced (sweet) nuts as toppings, but there are other options like chopped Snickers (yes! This is more “traditional” or common where I live) or graham crackers.
- If you want to make this grape salad in advance, such as the night before you eat it, save the nut topping and sprinkle on it just before serving.
