Why homemade seasonings are the best

  • The best ingredients – Homemade condiments, what’s in them (and what’s not)? do not have If you’re avoiding sugar, dairy, and gluten, making your own seasonings is a great idea, and you can even use all-organic spices if you prefer.
  • Unlimited Supply – If you make chili often like we do, relying on store-bought seasoning packets can be a pain. This way you always have what you need and can always make more if you run out.
  • Great taste – This recipe tastes amazing. It’s so tasty and the whole family loves it.
  • You can adjust the level of spiciness – This chili seasoning, when made as per the recipe, is what I would consider “mild.” It’s flavorful and Some It’s spicy, but not too spicy for my kids. If you want it a bit spicier, add more cayenne pepper (try double it to start) and you can also add crushed chili flakes.

Shelf life

Homemade spices will keep in your pantry for 1-2 years. For maximum freshness, use them within 6 months. This goes without saying, but the fresher the spices you use, the longer they will last, so if this is a concern for you, avoid using spices that have been sitting in a drawer for years.

How much seasoning is in each bag?

If you are using a recipe that calls for “one packet” of commercial chili seasoning mix, this equates to one packet of commercial mix.

Tips on how to make it

  • Make in bulk – This recipe makes the perfect amount for one seasoning packet or one chili crockpot serving. When making this recipe, always prepare at least triple the amount and leave extra for your next batch.
  • Secret Ingredient (Optional) – If you want to add something unique to your chili, try adding a pinch of cocoa powder, cinnamon, or coffee grounds. Many recipes call for these as “secret” ingredients to add depth of flavor.
  • Add some spice – For a spicy chili, double the cayenne pepper in this recipe and add red pepper flakes. You can add more spices to your taste while it’s cooking in the crockpot (it’s easier to keep adding spices than to realize you added too much at the start).
