Let’s start with an ode to our senses. Sometimes (and when possible) we can smell, taste, see, touch, and hear our way towards stillness. A moment of glancing at an image, smelling the scent of an essential oil, or being immersed in sound can help relieve stress and transport you to a place of peace. What about take-home? Calm and relaxation are within your reach if you manage your senses. This is true when it comes to interior design, especially when it comes to bedrooms. Choosing calming bedroom colors can support our health and help us get better quality rest.

Read on for some of the most soothing, beautiful and calming bedroom colors to soothe your senses.

The most relaxing bedroom color

The paint trends for 2026 are all about creating a relaxing atmosphere at home. This is especially important in the bedroom, where color is the main element of a calm and cozy space. “When designing a bedroom, I first think about how the space should feel when you exhale at the end of the day,” says Kimberly Oxford. Kimberly Oxford interiors KK. “A calming palette is essential, but true tranquility comes from layering colors, materials, and light in ways that gently calm the nervous system.”

The bedroom is meant for deep relaxation, and if the space is intentionally designed, you can expect a comfortable night’s rest. Ahead of that, we spoke to designers about the best bedroom colors for sleeping. Here are some of the trending paint colors they recommend.

A soft and moody blue bedroom paint color.

soft blues

Research shows that spending time in environments near bodies of water can lift your mood, reduce stress, and improve your sense of well-being. Blue is an incredibly calming color, so it’s a natural choice for your bedroom. “I always choose soft blue tones for my bedroom, as these colors are associated with relaxation and lower stress levels,” says color expert Daniele Doerge. california paint,KK. “The powdery, slightly calming blue creates a calming and calming atmosphere, perfect for spaces where sleep is a priority.”

Soft blue can also mean darker shades. “Think the evening sky instead of navy. Soft blues, when desaturated, have a gentle heart-rate-lowering effect,” says the designer, psychotherapist, and founder. psychologyShared by Dr. Rachel Merwald. Dr. Melwald, who has a background in both design and psychology, recommends thinking of your bedroom like a space that envelops you. “In 2026, trends won’t be so bold. “Rather than a wall of assertion, it’s a biologically calming, cocooning tone that helps the body downshift into rest and connection,” she says.

light pink, yellow, orange

Think back to the California desert on a late August night. A terracotta earth tapestry kissing the golden sunset. These calming colors bring just that to your bedroom. “One color I keep coming back to is Benjamin Moore CC-310 Dusty Road. It’s one of those rare shades that instantly transforms a room,” says Oxford. “Soft and muted with warm undertones, it compliments all skin tones and creates a moody, luminous feel.”

When painting your bedroom, don’t be afraid to cover the entire room with color, especially if you’re using a warm color palette. “I often recommend painting the fifth wall, the ceiling, the same color as the walls. This creates a cocoon-like effect that visually quiets the room and removes any harsh changes, allowing the eyes and mind to completely relax,” recommends Oxford.

earthy greens

You know that calming feeling you get when you walk on fresh grass? That’s what this color does in our home. Green represents peace, nature, and harmony. “Natural, calming greenery is very calming because it unconsciously connects us to the outdoors,” says Doelge. “Green is also associated with balance and restoration, making it an ideal color for the bedroom, a space where most of us want to relax and rest.”

Not sure which shades to match? You can’t go wrong with muted sage, soft olive, or even deep hunter green. “Nature-based shades of green signal safety to the brain and reduce cognitive load,” says Dr. Merwald. “Green shades are processed in the nervous system as ‘non-threatening’.”

mushroom and taupe

Neutrals never go out of style, but this year, focus on warm taupe and mushroom tones, especially in the bedroom. “These tones are trending because they add depth to a space without feeling overly exciting,” Doerge believes. “Unlike cooler tones like gray, these shades create a soft, warm environment that helps create a feeling of comfort and relaxation at the end of the day.”

“There are several reasons why we are attracted to mushroom hues,” says Dr. Merwald. “The diversity of this palette of shades provides safety, restraint, and visual stress relief. Due to their regulating properties, they not only blend well with other colors, but are also very calming to our visual nervous system.”
