This baked salmon recipe is something I make every week for dinner. Learning to make great grilled salmon is much like learning how to cook grilled chicken or steak. It’s a staple food in my book. There are so many ways to change this basic recipe slightly, so diet is not boring. Plus, baked salmon is healthy and tasty!
I like to make freshly baked salmon with Asian fusion type glaze, often served on rice, along with cucumber salad. Basically, it’s a salmon rice bowl type. Another option is to use Italian flavors or simply use lemon to serve pasta. Or serve with a Tex Mex flavor and taco tortilla. Or a Greek flavour and serve on a salad with olives and pita. And the list continues! Baked salmon is extremely versatile.

- Salmon – Often called “salmon part” at meat counters (4-6 oz)
- oil
- miso
- soy sauce
This is all the basic ingredients used for the salmon in the picture. There are even more options as shown in the notes below!

How to grill salmon
If you are using thawing frozen salmon, use it first. I usually buy a fresh (unfrozen) salmon portion, but the frozen one works well too!
Add aluminum foil to the top. It’s optional, but this makes it easier. Lightly oil foil before placing the salmon. Top with your favorite spices, seasonings or sauces.
Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes. Next, turn the oven and bake and place the baking sheet on the top rack. Bake for 1-2 minutes.
Serve this grilled salmon with rice, pasta, risotto, tortillas, pitas, salads and more for anything you want to eat.

Tips and notes
- I put the frozen salmon in the fridge the night before I plan to use it.
- I love mixing soy sauce with miso, gochan paste, or black bean paste into my sauce most often. Sometimes I mix BBQ sauce with soy sauce to make a simple Korean BBQ type sauce.
- Also, before baking like frank, sriracha or cholala, polish the salmon with hot sauce.
- Another option is to make it heavier with dry season mixes and rubs like Za’atar, Taco seasonings, chili seasonings, or Italian seasonings. I especially like this option if you’re planning on adding baked salmon to your salad.
- I also think it’s great to keep it very simple and topped with salmon with a bit of melted butter, lemon juice, salt and pepper!
