Over the past week, Anton’s second cousin Jimmy, 13, has come from England to visit Brooklyn. Jimmy was the first in America and we were all excited. This morning Anton and I were reminiscing and thought we would share the photos…

Jimmy lives in a small seaside town in England, and Anton told me: “We were kidding. “Do you have cars in England? Do you have scooters in England? Do you have light in England? It was really funny. But his jokes were actually really funny.”

Jimmy asked to see some sights and we were willing to obligate. “Can we go to Louis Vuitton Store Does it look like a suitcase? ” he asked.

We took him to American Museum of Natural Historyone of our longtime favorite places…

…and to see Times Square on the night Jimmy did a backflip for the crowd. “He taught himself to do flips in the backyard when he was six,” Anton told me. “He didn’t know the outcome of being able to snap his neck, so he totally wanted it!”

The boys asked me to take them again Chelsea Pier Operating Range. When I did a New Yorker crossword puzzle, they hit the ball. “Jimmy said he wanted to ride a yellow school bus,” Anton told me. “He’s never done that.”

We just tweeted at home too…

…And in the neighborhood. “As we were walking down the street, Jimmy was like, ‘Look at it, look at it.’ “He loved me too 16 handles. ”

At the end of the week, Toby and my mother joined us and we went to a nearby cafe for coffee and magic tricks. Jimmy showed us some cool stuff and I broke my old favorite.

Finally, on Sunday, my brother and Jimmy returned to England and honestly, we all felt really sad. It’s difficult to live in the ocean away from your loved ones because I’m sure many people are experiencing it. But we are very fortunate to be able to keep in touch. When my maternal grandmother moved to Chicago from Manchester, England with her new soldier husband, she was able to exchange letters with her parents until she visited many years later. Where does your relative live? Are you nearby? Is it half apart? How do you keep in touch? I want to hear it. I know that every arrangement has its advantages and disadvantages. xoxo
PS Holy Smoke, I have lived in New York for over 20 years and live six NYC itineraries for kids.
