truth? I love hot dogs. I really think so. I like to pretend I’m making air fryer hot dogs primarily for my kids, but actually, if I’m being honest, I have to admit that my kids don’t really like hot dogs. lol. That’s for me.
I was never a fan of boiled hot dogs. I’m not a fan of microwave hot dogs either, but I admit that microwaves are convenient. I love grilled hot dogs, but I don’t currently have a grill. So, for me, the absolute best hot dog is one made in the air fryer. It’s faster than the oven. Plus, it feels silly to turn on the oven to make just one hot dog. I also love how my air fryer hot dogs cook through and even start to puff up like they do when grilled or baked in the oven.
Related: Here are some of my favorite things to make in the air fryer. You should update that post to include hot dogs as well. lol.

material
- hot dog
- hot dog buns
- Condiments for serving – ketchup, mustard, etc.
FYI, my favorite hot dog toppings are mustard and fried onions. I like the crunch and flavor it adds.

How to make air fryer hot dogs
Add hot dogs to air fryer. Air fry at 390°F for 5 minutes, rotating hot dogs halfway through cooking. Don’t rotate the basket completely, just shake it a little every now and then.
Next, add the hot dog to the bun (use tongs as it will be hot). Air fry for another 1-2 minutes. This will warm up the buns, so it’s worth a try.
Remove the hot dogs and buns from the air fryer and top with your favorite toppings. enjoy!

Tips and notes
- I personally do not preheat the airfryer before starting this recipe. That will be a good thing! You may be able to shave 1 minute off your cooking time.
- This recipe is for classic or standard size hot dogs. If using jumbo or larger hot dogs, increase cooking time by 1 to 2 minutes.
- I like to add diagonal slices on top of my hot dogs. This isn’t necessary, but it adds a little texture to the hot dog and makes it look nicer after cooking. But it’s no big deal if you forget.
