Our group had 5 children and 7 adults. Including the lovely Sharon Beasley above 🙂 The first night of a group trip is always slightly nervous for me. Do adults click? Are we trapped in a small vortex of stories? Luckily, everyone quickly fell into a simple rhythm and I was very happy.

In the mornings I usually stayed quite laid back with people who ate cereals, drink coffee and read books. The above celebration happened when my friend Sean found out how the video game system works. The child is still a child, wherever you are, haha.

We also explored the surrounding area. In Italy, each region has its own specific dishes and ingredients, and one day the boy and I went to Pienza, a nearby town known for their Pecorino cheese. Crostini had an arugula salad with sharp, nutty, aged slices and a mild, grassy young pecorino.

One night some of our adults creep up Podere Ciona Winery In the heart of the Chianti Classic Wine Region. I kept saying this during the hour’s drive filled with gentle hills, sunflower fields and hilltop towns. At certain moments, I honestly felt like I was dreaming. It was very beautiful and very vast.

The winery is run by Italian Lorenzo and American (and former New Yorker) Jennifer – married couple. We enjoyed frittata, grapes, bread and cheese snacks, while tasting rosé and white and red wine. How stunning is the view? !

Finally, we said goodbye to our friends and spent our last night in the hotel two hours north of Rome Airport. I thought I was just booking a hotel at the airport, but I thought I might try to narrow it down on my final adventure.

I’m glad we did it Our hotel (This was very comfortable, but had terrible food, Fyi) was climbing the hill from a small beach club. The club was packed with Italian families, teenagers and older couples. I love that all women of all ages, shapes and sizes wore string bikini.

This friend, Trump, also threw my heart into the air. Can this be us in 25 years?

Thank you Italy for such a beautiful week! Of course, it is not depicted: brothers’ conflict, mosquito biting, jet lag, long drives, getting seriously ill on the first night with a stomach bug I caught in England. Italy, we loved you and felt very fortunate.
