
After a divorce, the artist Simone Pork She says she needed a “soft landing.” She found a light apartment in Copenhagen and shared it with her 12-year-old daughter Ava. They have moved ever since, but here is a tour of the space where Simone led a tough transition, welcomed new friends and served as the background to her paintings…

“I was with my ex for 14 years so I felt really lonely at first. Then I met an old friend at a party and she introduced me to a group of divorced women. All of the women had the same custody.

“At the time I was 12, I discovered a book on my dad’s bookshelves filled with pictures of all these beautiful rooms, and I remember thinking about it. Should I live in this room or that room? I was engrossed in imagining it. The space you love can bring so much joy. ”

“Growing up, I always drew. My dad, an artist, was very proud of me and said I would become an artist too. Then I forgot about it. I had a long career on television.

“First, I sold my own drawings and then worked in the gallery. This requires 50% cuts. Then I decided to go back to selling my work directly. For several years I have been photographing my art at home. It was a game changer where clients and collectors could see the paintings like this, as opposed to the spaces in white weave gallery.”

“I’m the fifth child. My brother inherited a designer chair that was worth a lot of money from my dad, and I became that little folding hunting stool, which my dad provided when he moved out of his family home.

“We didn’t stay here for too long. I found a place where I could put my studio at home. That makes more sense, but I felt so lucky to be able to live here.”
