If you’re like me, winter hits you hard, and by the time spring rolls around, you’re craving more time outside (without wrapping up in layers up to your eyes), craving more social outings, and wanting to open the windows and let some fresh air into your home.

Budget-friendliness is key here. Some ideas require minimal budgets, others a bit of creativity. Go ahead and try one or two out.
1. Change out some fabrics.
As we transition into spring, one way you can make a difference, both in terms of changing up your look and increasing your warm-weather comfort, is to switch up a fabric or two.
Lightweight fabrics like linen and cotton are perfect for spring and summer and there are plenty of ideas for updating your textiles for the season. Here are some suggestions.
2. Say it together: Add plants!
Ahh, plants. Here at W&D, we love plants, both for the way they look and the joy and stress relief we get from watching them thrive. Spring marks the start of the growing season for these indoor beauties, so we think this is also an ideal time to add another plant friend (or a few) to your home.
If you’re already maxing out on plants, consider switching out your current plants to freshen them up. Placement in the house (depending on your lighting needs of course) or Transplant into a new planterif you’re looking for new soil and a little more growing space.
3. Try changing your rug.
Rugs can change the overall look of a room by the way they frame and ground a space. While we don’t recommend replacing every rug in your home every time the season changes, there are some ways you can use rugs to make an impact as we head into spring.
- Try swapping out rugs from room to room, moving a living room rug to a bedroom or vice versa. This doesn’t have to cost you anything, and moving furniture around can cause a little sweat.
- If you have a patterned rug in your room and want something simpler, spring might be the perfect time to replace it with a versatile, neutral option like a sisal or jute rug. This sisal rug!
- Consider removing your rugs altogether as the warmer weather approaches (you can always put them back if you change your mind!), or, if you have layered rugs in a particular room, consider removing the top rug and letting just the bottom rug shine.
4. Add artwork.

5. Freshen up your entryway.

- Create your own arrangements – there’s no right or wrong way to do it, but variety is key – experiment with heights, flower types and fillers until you find one you like.

I, like many of you, live in a world of budget-conscious purchasing decisions, and while it’s fun to buy new things every now and again, decorating doesn’t always fit into the budget every month. That’s where the world of redecorating comes in.
Move existing artwork from one room to another, move a lamp that’s usually in the living room to the bedroom for a change of pace, stack books in new locations, on top of different furniture or on the floor with plants, etc.
