As for the organizational system of my home, there are no rooms that dial in as much as my kitchen. This is especially important to me. Because I love cooking in this space and do that almost every day. Over time, I developed a kitchen organization system that works very well for me, although not necessarily clean.

Today we share three rules that help us maintain our kitchen organization system.

The rules of three kitchen organizations swear

1. Everything has its own dedicated location.

All of our kitchen ingredients and cooking utensils have a dedicated location. This includes small appliances, pots and pans, lids, food storage containers, and more. I will not focus perfectly or make sure all the cabinets and drawers are perfectly organized. Make sure everything fits and when you’ve finished using it, you’ll return to its place. Things get a little unorganized after a few months (partly because I’m not the only one using this space), but it takes less than 30 minutes to fix it. In my opinion, that means this is the winning organizational solution for our family.

2. Everything is easy to find.

This rule is most prominent in large pantry cabinets in the kitchen. Here we organize all the ingredients we have by cooking methods. Similar items come with beans and rice, noodles, cooking oil, and baked ingredients. They also store almost everything in a clear container so you can easily see what you have at hand (and know when to refill the ingredients). These containers It’s my favorite! I like to cook most of what I have in the pantry before refilling. This means that you wipe and refill the container for 1-2 months each month, and clean anything that has expired.

3. Everything can be easily reset.

There is a baseline level of cleanliness you’ll try to maintain in the kitchen. Even if life is chaotic, it is very easy to return your kitchen to a clean and organized state at the end of every day. These are non-negotiable tasks we do every night (or most nights).

  • Load the dishes in the dishwasher.
  • I’ll clear the counter.
  • Clean your island of personal items.
  • Items that have no obvious locations are placed in the designated bowl at the counter and sort the next day.

We don’t have a perfect track record of completing all of these things every night. That’s fine. But I know from experience that if at least two or three are completed, it makes a huge difference when you put out the door to your school drop-off the next morning.
