Doc’s great heroic sacrifice and death is perhaps the most shocking moment at the end of the story. revengeWhy was now the right time for Doc’s end, and had it been planned for some time?
question: Listen, if I had told you that…I might have wanted it.
MS: I was hoping you would mention this.
question: I think it’s a great storyline for the characters. I’m always asked, “What’s your favorite scene?” or “What’s your favorite season?” and to be honest, Wynonna Earp That was the storyline that was given to me. I’ve been through so many different levels and emotions, and I just loved that we got to end it the way that we did. Personally, I loved it. I thought it was really great. And I think Emily did it justice. I wasn’t nervous. I was in great hands. I literally died in the best hands possible. And Emily Andras had written that scene. I was relieved. It was a good way to do it. I can tell you this… this is a sci-fi show. Anything is possible, right?
EA: Tim will be honest with you that it was his idea, and you should be very proud of that, Nora.
There’s something natural about Doc, because he’s been on this journey for 175 years. He’s been a gunslinger, a vampire, a good guy, a bad guy, a father. What’s the ultimate final adventure? It’s death, right? For him, it felt like the right choice.
But here’s the truth about Tim Rozon that we all know: There’s no one more Earp than Tim Rozon. The most Earpy Earper of all time. He met with Tubi and basically said, “Look, we have a passionate fanbase. There are still so many stories to tell, and I think Andrus can do it.” Tubi asked, “So what makes this special? Why is it different from other episodes?” And he said, “I’ll tell you. We’re going to kill off Doc.” That was his pitch.
But then we all go out to dinner and we pitch different things. When we actually got the green light, I said to Tim, “I can fight this, because people always say crazy things.” I told him Meryl Streep was going to be in it. I said, “You’ve already pitched it. Do you want me to fight for it?” And he said, “No, because I trust you and I think it’s a funny story and you can carry it.”
That being said, as soon as Tim got on set he said, “Well… we… if we could go again, I don’t see why we couldn’t do this again,” and I said, “Let’s talk about it. We can work this out.” That was the next problem.
I think that speaks to how much the cast understands that the show went from being something they made to being owned by the fans. I think sometimes creators struggle with that, like the ultimate gift of other people having ownership. And Tim was like, “We’ll do anything we can to get more fans.” Arp It’s a good thing for these people that we love.”
Mel, was it difficult to film Wynonna and Doc’s final scene?
MS: With Tim, everything is easy. So even when something is difficult, it’s easy. That’s what I learned. Oh, this should be good, But I guess it’s because we’re together. It felt good in that sense. It was really hard. I’m sorry he’s gone and things have become the way they are.
I also believe that we have friends in high positions, and just like Wynonna, I think it’s all about staying hopeful. She doesn’t give up, and I don’t give up.
