Why Cynthia Erivo wears prosthetic ears on ‘Wicked’

evil As craze sweeps the nation, and before the movie hits theaters (FYI, it opens next Friday), Cynthia Erivo is pulling back the curtain on some of the movie’s styling secrets.

in a recent interview Ellethe actor behind Elphaba revealed how long it took her to completely transform with the costume, and the amazing body modifications required to change her look.

Cynthia said that the shade of green makeup on her skin was literally called “Cynthia Green” and that it usually took a long time to apply it to her skin.

“It can take up to four hours depending on how much green work you’ve done: head, chest, hands, whole body,” she claimed.

“Everything was done right down to the eyebrows,” Cynthia added, adding that the makeup artist “also created a vacuum shape so that the freckles stayed in the same place every day.”

Most surprisingly, Cynthia revealed that she also had to have a prosthetic ear created in order to fully become Elphaba. The reason has more to do with Cynthia herself than with the character she played.

“I have a million piercings, so they brought in a prosthetic artist and basically created a shell for my ear,” she said. “That’s not my ear!”

For comparison, here’s Cynthia on the red carpet with real ears…

And here’s a good look at the prosthetic ears she wore on set. (it is evil (Director Jon M. Chu talks to Ariana Grande as she watches in the background).

Enjoy the magic of movies, everyone! Read the full interview hereAnd if you want to share your own amazing cinematic transformations, please write in the comments.
