Two years later Red, White, Royal Blue Fans who made history with Prime Video are eagerly awaiting the latest updates on Alex and Prince Henry’s love stories. The fandom went into total panic mode when author Casey McQuiston recently said, “Pencils are kind of down for now.”
But don’t worry, McKiston quickly revealed that it wasn’t as dramatic as it could be heard.
“Pencil Down” is not a bad thing
This is what really happened. At a recent event on August 14th, McQuiston made the highly anticipated update on the second upcoming film, which was in Greenlight last May. Since the first book does not have a sequel, RWRB Director Matthew Lopez is said to have written the film.
“I think it’s safe to say our pencils are down for now. As long as we move forward, we’ll see what comes next,” they said. “I’m not free to say anything more, but I know that everyone I talked about on the project is really excited.”
While some fans saw this as good news, others were forced to worry about “down the pencil.”
“In fact, no one knows how to read this positively in a sequel. They didn’t say the pencil was finished, specifically the pencil was down. More comments quickly flooded, causing fans to spiral and question whether they could see where Alex and Henry’s love story would go next.
Authors who save the day
According to DNAMcKiston gets caught up in panic and swoops to reassure everyone. On August 19th, they took him to a story on Instagram and explained his comments.
“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but “Down the Pencil” is the form of a speech that refers to when you’re taking sat or something, and it’s time to put the pencil down as the test section is complete,” they wrote. “I’ve described this expression 100,000 times, the feeling of flipping through the manuscript, but it’s not too deep!”
Hmm! There are no words for filming yet, but the sequel is moving forward. That’s enough to keep us feeding…for now.
The sequel is still happening
Last year, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that the sequel is officially in development after holding its top spot for three weeks after the original became Streamer’s No. 1 movie over the opening weekend.
McQuiston also participates as an executive producer, working with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Michael McGrath of López and Berlanti Schechter Films.

Who will be back?
The sequel reunites Taylor Zahar Perez as Alex and Nicholas Garitzin as Prince Harry, with Lopez at the helm. Uma Thurman President Ellen Claremont captivated fans with her first film and recently announced that she will improve her role when the time comes.
first Red, White, Royal Blue It wasn’t just a ROM-COM, it was a strange cultural reset. The enthusiast romance from the enemy between the eldest son of the United States and the prince of England gave LGBTQ+ audiences a rare happy ending on the mainstream global stage.
Well, the only question is: Where do Alex and Henry go from here? Do we watch wedding bells, political dramas, or even royal scandals? With McQuiston and López on the wheel, fans can expect the sequel to honor what made the original such a phenomenon.
