Utah Republican Gov. Spencer Cox said on Sunday that the 22-year-old, who says authorities killed far-right commentator Charlie Kirk, lived with his trans partner.
During an interview with Dana Bash on the CNN Union StatusCox said Tyler Robinson is romantically linked to his roommate, a trans woman.
“Yes. I can confirm that. I know it’s been reported and the FBI has confirmed it as well. The roommates are romantic partners and we’ve confirmed that men are transitioning to women,” Cox told Bash.

Cox added that Robinson’s partners are supporting the authorities, “we’re incredibly supportive, we didn’t know this was happening, and we’re currently working with investigators.”
The governor said “it’s easy to draw a conclusion,” adding that he would not speculate on Robinson’s motives.
“We know that everyone knows exactly why and wants to point their fingers, and then I get it, and I do it too. So, I don’t read all the interview transcripts, so I want to be careful, so we have to wait and see what comes out,” Cox said.
Cox said a charge will be filed against the suspect on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal returned a report that “transgender ideology” was etched into a casing he recovered near the scene of Kirk’s murder. Cox described some of the inscriptions about the casing as referring to anti-fascist Italian songs and internet culture memes.
After Kirk’s murder, right-wing commentators and politicians initially blamed trans people for the shooting. Donald Trump Jr. said trans people are worse than terrorists following Kirk’s assassination. Despite the fact that trans people make up less than a percentage of mass shooters, it has become a common theme after famous shootings. In fact, they are most likely victims of violent crimes than perpetrators.
