US Sen. Cory Booker has denounced the Supreme Court for supporting Tennessee law banning gender-affirming care for trans youth.

US v Skrmetti was taken to court in 2024 after trans children and gender-affirming care providers sued Tennessee over a bill restricting trans youth care.
Judge John Roberts argued that the ban did not violate the equal protection provisions of the 14th Amendment.
“[The bill] Healthcare providers prohibit minors from administering adolescent blockers or hormones to minors to treat gender discomfort, gender identity disorder, or gender inconsistency regardless of minor gender,” writes Roberts.
Conversely, Judge Sonia Sotomayor wrote: “This case is about whether Tennessee can prohibit doctors from providing the medical care they need to transgender teenagers. The answer is a big deal.”
“These laws invade the heart of the physician-patient relationship,” she wrote. “Transgender people deserve equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution does not require anything less.”
Sotomayor joined in opposing opinions against Justices Kentanji Brown Jackson and Elena Kagan.
