The President speaks at the House Republican Party Dinner donald trump He warned that if Democrats regain control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections, they will seek his impeachment.

“[I]”If we don’t win the midterm elections, they’ll find a reason to impeach me. I’ll be impeached,” Trump said.

Trump was the first impeached In 2019, after Democrats regained the House majority during the president’s first term, allegations surfaced that he withheld military aid to Ukraine approved by Congress in order to pressure the government into announcing an investigation into his political rival, the former president. joe biden.

Trump was impeached for the second time in 2021 for his role in the events surrounding the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol after he encouraged his supporters to disrupt the Congressional filibuster that certified Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election.

The president has repeatedly maintained his innocence and cast both impeachments as retaliation by political opponents who claim to be part of the “deep state” for his election victory.

nevertheless vote It suggests that most voters believe the country is headed in the wrong direction – a dynamic that typically favors Democrats in midterm elections. NBC News Reports say Republican operatives are using the threat of impeachment to motivate less inclined Republican voters, even if President Trump is not on the ballot.

The president addressed Republican lawmakers at a venue in Washington, D.C., complaining that Democrats were “mean” to him.

He went on to claim that if Democrats were in power, they would pursue an “open borders” immigration policy, advocate allowing “male participation in women’s sports,” and impose what he described as “transgender on everyone” by forcing Americans to undergo medical transitions.

“Bring me your kids. Let’s change the gender of your kids,” he said, repeating one of his favorite claims about Democrats and support for transgender rights. “In some cases, like in Minnesota, they don’t even tell the parents. When the child comes back, they take the child, they do the surgery, they don’t tell the parents anything.”

President Trump’s claim that children are undergoing gender reassignment surgery at school without their parents’ knowledge is false.

In a rambling speech, Trump gushed about Democrats’ supposed support for “men in women’s sports” and claimed they were “fighting like hell” to allow transgender women to participate as women in athletics designated for women.

He then continued with well-known anecdotes about transgender marathon runners, boxers, swimmers and weightlifters who claim to have broken records and won medals, and then again performed an impersonation of a transgender weightlifter, saying he received criticism from his wife Melania but was cheered at rallies.

The basis for the impersonation was unclear. This may have been a reference to New Zealand Olympic weightlifter Laurel Hubbard, but President Trump’s explanation has changed over time and is not consistent with what Hubbard looked like at the Olympics, when she did not lift successfully.

President Trump also acknowledged that he sees the transgender athlete issue as an effective political weapon against Democrats. Additionally, she argued that opposition to transgender participation in women’s sports is a “98-2 issue” supported by a majority of Americans.
