President Donald Trump decided earlier this month that only Republicans would be invited to the traditional dinner at the White House during the National Governors Association’s winter meeting scheduled for February 19-21 in Washington, D.C., and that Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore would be excluded from the meeting.
Mr. Polis, the only openly gay man, and Mr. Moore, the nation’s only black governor and NGA vice chairman, were removed from the event as Democratic governors.
White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said on Tuesday (February 10) that President Trump has “discretionary authority to invite whoever he wants to the White House.”

He added, “This is the people’s home. It’s also the president’s home, so the president can invite anyone to dinners and events here at the White House.”
This was announced by a police spokesperson. defender “Governor Polis and other governors are focused on getting results for our state, not playing games,” the Feb. 10 statement said.
“Governor Polis welcomes nominations of popular local restaurants so he can spend a free evening exploring the best of Washington, D.C., with other Democratic governors.”
Meanwhile, Moore said on a recent CNN appearance: state of the union: “There is no doubt that I am the only black governor in this country.
“And I think that’s especially painful given the fact that not only are my colleagues asking me to help lead them, but the president is trying to remove me from an organization that I believe I belong to.”
In response, the National Governors Association announced that it would no longer hold formal meetings with President Trump.
On Tuesday (February 10), 18 Democratic governors also announced they would boycott the traditional dinner at the White House.
