Tom Daly has announced his first major career move since retiring from diving, as he will lead a new knitting show.
This summer, Daly announced his retirement from competitive diving after winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics. The five-time Olympic medalist said it was “emotional” to step on the diving board for the last time at the Olympics, but felt it was “the right time to end it”.
But fans can expect even more goodness from Daley now that the star has announced a new role.
The LGBTQ+ advocate is set to host a new knitting competition series on Channel 4. Its tentative title is wool game. The series was filmed in the Scottish countryside and recalls the country’s knitting and wool traditions.
The knitting enthusiast made headlines for his knitting skills when he prepared needles and yarn in the stands for the first time at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The series marks Daly’s first major presenting role in what is set to be the UK’s first ever TV knitting competition. He will oversee 10 aspiring knitters taking on challenges in an eight-episode series. Knitters take on two challenges: a complex group knitting project in teams and an individual knit to test their skill set.
Contestants create crafts and larger-than-life sculptures made entirely of wool. They create not only clothes, but also jewelry, home accessories, furniture, sculptures, and even “yarn bombing,” a type of street art that covers public objects with knits and crochet.
Along with Daly, creators Di Gilpin and Sheila Greenwell, known for knitting for fashion houses such as Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith, will also be judges on the series, judging the contestants. I plan to.
By the end of the contest, only one contestant can win the first-ever title. wool game champion.
Daley said this on a program. press release: “I’m very excited, but also a little nervous, to be the host for the first time on a project that encompasses everything I’m passionate about. I love all things knitting, so I hope you all pick up your knitting needles, too.” Please take a look and give it a try. I can’t wait to see what our knitters create and I hope this inspires people at home to get involved too.”
casting wool game is now open. You can apply here.
