Shannon and Law, who live in New York, quietly worked their way into each other’s lives during the pandemic, starting with their first date in Central Park. A few years later, Shannon hired photographer Daniel Nidich to capture his proposal to Law. Little did they know that Law was adding another dimension to their romance by proposing himself, never mind that it would become a double proposal.
Nidich and Shannon had been preparing to pop the big question during a getaway in New Hope, Pennsylvania, in October. Lo didn’t even know that a photographer was there when the couple crossed the bridge to Lambertville, New Jersey.
“There’s a short bridge that people can cross so they can enjoy both towns,” Nidich said. “You can do it all in a short afternoon. They’re considered sister cities and are both artistic, eclectic communities that embrace the LGBTQ+ community.”
“Shannon and I arranged the location and time in advance, and I was there pretending to be taking photos of my wife. Ro thought they were just enjoying the scenery and the leaves as they normally do.”
Shannon and Ro had planned to propose that day, but only Ro knew his plans. Before Shannon could propose as planned, Ro knelt by the river. Shannon turned and gasped as she knelt down and pulled a ring box out of her jacket. “What are you doing?” Shannon asked, a gleeful, shocked smile on her face. She then pulled Ro up and carried him closer to where she had planned to propose, where a bridge provided an awe-inspiring backdrop.
Lo knelt in front of Shannon again, and Shannon also got down on one knee and took a ring box out of her pocket.
His confusion quickly turned to joy as both women asked him in succession, “Will you marry me?” An enthusiastic “Yes” and a sweet kiss followed. You can see more photos of Daniel Nidich below, as well as the proposal video filmed by Nidich’s wife.
Why our double proposal celebrates LGBTQ+ pride
The double proposal, which doubly surprised a lesbian couple in New York, was captured on photographs and video.
The engaged couple also shared with Equally Wed what they love about each other. Shannon said, “Roberta has a warmth and kindness in her eyes and smile that is unlike any other. She struck me the moment we met. It truly was love at first sight. She has become everything I felt in that first moment and so much more.” Roberta added that Shannon has a “kind, loving, warm heart; inspirational strength, bubbly sense of humor, and beauty inside and out. She is truly breathtaking.”
