Desiree Dike already made a great impression as a contestant on Season 6 Boulet Brothers’ Draguraa horror-themed drag reality contest was being held on Shudder even before the incident known as Chickengate.
Bringing his unique livewire energy to this Emmy-nominated series’ celebration of gore, guts, and glamor, the Falls Church, Virginia, native is a fierce competitor in a number of high-octane drug-horror challenges. I have proven that.
Their “killer doll” drag was praised by guest judge and killer doll expert Jennifer Tilly, one of Desiree’s horror movie heroes. And also for his performance as a perverted pilgrim who handles raw chicken with his fists on the show. holiday of horror In this episode, Desiree is praised by Chief Judge Dramolda and Swantula Bouret for taking the filth into space.
Drac was a little annoyed that Desiree’s Pilgrims brought a chicken for their turkey dinner, but Swan declared, Dragurain a mean, punk kind of way. ”
Desiree also brings a punk rock spirit to her interactions with the other queens in the cast. So the now-infamous mud fight in Episode 3 ended with Desiree being dragged across the room as a filthy pilgrim and throwing a chicken at fellow contestant Yuri.
“It was a real chicken,” Desiree told me, tongue in cheek. So I thought, where on earth should I go? [a turkey]?I should have put on a wig or something to hide it somehow.? ”
Chatting at home while preparing for the Austin International Drag Festival and upcoming gigs in San Diego Dragura Sister Vivivi the Force — Desiree says life has been a little chaotic, but amazing, since the season began airing. “We’ve been traveling a bit because of the show,” say the guys, who recently performed at the Boulet Brothers’ annual Halloween Live Show in Boston.
Despite chickengate, performer’s time is on Dragura I had a good time. “The shoot was fun,” they say. “When I look back, my fun, energetic, crazy, cheeky side comes out. There’s also another side of me that hasn’t been shown yet, but that I think will be shown in the future. I hope.”
There’s always Boulet Brothers’ Dragura: Titansa spin-off where returning contestants get a chance to impress once again with their displays of drugs, filth, horror and glamour. Desiree honed her style as an underground drag artist in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and is now a busy drag artist around town, hosting regular events at the gay-run Red Bear Brewing Company. He shows a multifaceted face.
Through March, Desiree will be hosting her own drag competition, “Slay Them,” at Red Bear. “‘Slay Them’ started a long time ago with Uproar,” they say. “It was an open-stage contest where you just wanted to pull weeds out of the basement and see who would participate, and it started to become popular. There were so many people. Then it became this monthly lip-syncing event. From there, it became the pageant it is today.”
Having won three times so far, Desiree is looking forward to seeing who will be the fourth winner. They still continue to praise the first queen they crowned, Every Pleasure. Every Pleasure won thanks in part to a song featuring a Vogue battle with the Power Rangers.
“She brought her own Power Rangers,” Desiree jokes. “It was really good. To be honest, I think she kind of put that crown up in the air. She had just won it and was booked everywhere. And it wasn’t my fault, it was her own The crown gave her the spotlight and she just ran with it.”
The same goes for queens who break out as winners or villains in internationally successful reality competitions. Desiree caught the attention and they were ready to see how far they could go with this. And I hope TV viewers realize there’s more to it than Chickengate.
“We wanted to be the kind of person you want to see on TV: sassy, fun, energetic, and silly,” they say. “I just wanted to bring it. Dragura Return to fearless contestants [about] Their words and actions have consequences in a sense. I think that’s why people don’t do them. But at the same time, I thought, this is my favorite TV show and I’m hooked. ”
