The election results were solemn. Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris with 312 electoral votes. Mr. Trump won the popular vote by a margin of about 4 million votes, a feat no one could have predicted, and one that pollsters and statisticians scrambled to put two and two together. is. By midnight on November 8, the winner was becoming increasingly clear, and it became increasingly delusional to think that Harris would win. In addition to President Trump’s victory, the U.S. Senate is also now red, with little opportunity for a filibuster. With both houses of Congress in red, progressives face an uphill battle in restoring justice to American society.
The dangers we face as a nation are now too numerous to list. LGBTQ citizens will be exposed to more bullying, discrimination, and ridicule from across the aisle. It is neither a joke nor an exaggeration of the truth to say that as a result of President Trump’s victory, more transgender youth will consider taking their own lives. For example, calls to The Trevor Project spiked 700% after the election. The Trevor Project hosts a suicide hotline for LGBTQ people in crisis.
There are several situations that will make life difficult for LGBTQ people in the coming years. The first is a state law that requires high school students to use the bathroom of the gender assigned to them at birth. This means transgender women in high school still have to use the boys’ restrooms, which puts them at serious risk and puts a strain on their mental health. The second is a statewide law that blocks gender-affirming care for trans minors. As I have written in the past, trans minors are entitled to hormone blockers and other treatments to help them conform to their desired gender.
The third item that is cause for concern is that President Trump is likely to again ban transgender people from serving in the military. Trump did this for the first time, and will likely do it again. Banning transgender people from the military makes no sense because they want to serve openly and proudly and contribute to the defense ecosystem that makes our streets safer in the United States and abroad. . President Trump doesn’t realize that the military spends infinitely more each year on drugs like Viagra than it does on transgender people, and that keeping transgender people out of the military would reduce health care costs. claims.
The fourth danger we face is built into President Trump’s Project 2025 plan. Project 2025, developed by the Heritage Foundation, is a conservative president’s blueprint for bringing Trump’s entire cronies back to power and, in the worst case scenario, laying the foundations for “detention camps” for illegal immigrants and others. Former Republican aide Stephen Miller is the mastermind behind the Project 2025 concentration camp. Miller was responsible for overseeing border security and other immigration-related issues during President Trump’s first term. In the worst-case scenario, the detention centers could provide a blueprint for the Trump administration to potentially detain more Americans. Mr. Miller allows these camps to have space for 25 million people, far more than the number of illegal immigrants that can be housed within their walls.
Project 2025 offers a dystopian worldview and is derived from dystopian thinking. At a campaign rally, President Trump referred to “transgender insanity” and “transgender operations against illegal aliens.” He is essentially using the transgender cause as a linchpin to mock and ridicule the LGBTQ community. Transgender individuals have historically had little political power, so trampling on us is an easy way to score political points with conservative Republican voters.
Overall, Trump’s inauguration will wreak havoc on the trans community and gay and lesbian people. If America enters some kind of dystopian reality in 2024 or 2025, where it enters World War III or feels the need to attack parts of its own population, transgender citizens will be targeted. and may be executed. To camp. A statement like this may seem radical at first glance, but in the back of your mind it is a real possibility. In conversations with friends, you joke about moving to Toronto, but it might not turn out to be a joke. But in some cases, the only way to move forward is to laugh at the horrors this new presidency means for Americans like me.
