At a ceremony held at The Schuyler at The Hamilton Hotel on Thursday, November 14th, the Capital Pride Alliance and its global partner InterPride announced the official theme of WorldPride 2025: “The Structure of Freedom” announced.
theme selectedThis is partly due to the results of the recent 2024 US presidential election, in which Republican President-elect Donald Trump defeated Democrat Kamala Harris. “The Fabric of Freedom” is meant to represent unity and be a global call to action for the LGBTQ community and its allies.
“Throughout history, people have used textiles as expressive symbols to communicate identity and as a form of resistance,” InterPride said in an official statement. “The LGBTQ+ community faces increasing challenges in the United States and around the world from those who seek division rather than unity, but through our rich culture, diverse identities, and backgrounds, we believe that the fabric of our community is better than ever. It guides us toward society’s future. “
“Our greatest strength is defined by our shared humanity and unshakeable unity. We are bound by love and acceptance, struggle and resilience, past and future, and together we stand for ‘freedom.’ These are the people who are building an ever-evolving community that embodies the structure of
“Freedom has been at the core of what we have been articulating since winning the bid,” Capital Pride Alliance Executive Director Ryan Boss said in a brief phone call prior to the event. spoke. “We have only recently finalized the actual framework and wording of the ‘structure of freedom.’”
Voss says this theme is very meaningful to him personally.
“To me, it means so many things,” he says. “That we all form that structure and are part of that structure, no matter where we live, where we come from, who we are, what we believe. And for true freedom, for me it represents that freedom requires effort to maintain and that freedom can be constantly expanded.
“This year’s theme…is to welcome people from all over the world to DC to share and celebrate DC’s values of unity, diversity, and compassion.” Official statement from Mayor Muriel Bowser.
“One of the really exciting things about WorldPride is being able to showcase our community,” Bos says. “A lot of people, not just internationally but nationally, only see Washington, DC, as the White House, the Capitol, monuments, monuments.
