Queer Taylor Swift fans have a reason to celebrate this weekend as dancer and choreographer Whyley Yoshimura praises the pop star for platforming LGBTQ+ representation.
In the fourth episode of the Taylor Swift documentary series, end of an eraYoshimura is featured heavily to express his love for the “All Too Well” hitmaker.
During the episode, the 36-year-old dancer spoke candidly about joining a dance troupe. “I was so honored to see her go down and trust me at the last minute,” he explained.
“But it’s even more of an honor to share the stage with someone who sees me. She doesn’t just see me, she celebrates me.
“Male dancers don’t really get to play female parts that often, and they’re even allowed to be as active in that part as they want.
“I want to be a role model for everyone, male, female, non-binary. I want them to feel seen the same way I felt seen by Taylor.”
Yoshimura also praised Swift’s emotional investment in The Eras Tour. He said, “I have never seen a boss come into a rehearsal crying with joy and passion for his work.”
Yoshimura is no stranger to the industry, having worked with artists such as Janet Jackson, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez. However, it was on a reality show in 2011 that he first came into the spotlight. All about Aubrey. On the show, he served as Aubrey O’Day’s dance instructor.
