Stand up for LGBTQ+ equality today

In today’s world, gay people San Francisco It’s a privilege. Noisy, generally, and often colorful privileges. We walk around our neighborhood LGBTQ+The flag fly high. There is a business that reflects us and the city officials who hear us. This is not true everywhere, we know it. But even here, I still see an increase in numbness, especially among young gay men. I also include myself.

Because I’m young Gay man Today means that we will be born in the aftermath of a war that we did not fight. We first inherit a strange simplicity that many elders could not have imagined. By default, it is not closed at work. There are dating apps, community centres and corporate sponsorships. But most surprising, we are revealing each other.

Still, we have a generation of strange people all around us who remember fighting just to survive. People burying their partners and watching the whole group of friends disappear, they awake and marched anyway. Fight through the silence of the government that killed their friends AIDS Crisis. A battle against religious enthusiasm, the criminalization of their love, and moral panic in the classroom.

I pride myself on my ears and listen, trying to create space for memory. Otherwise, we risk forgetting that this is not just a celebration. And that’s not yet. Take a step back from the sparkle and see where we are now.

This year is over 500 anti-Lbgtq+ invoices introduced across the US. Transgender people are prohibited from sports, bathrooms and healthcare. Drug shows are criminalized. Books containing queer characters are pulled from the school shelves. Children are said to have strange families as unnatural. In some states, simply discussing strange identities is considered “indoctrination.”

June, The Department of Defense stripped Harvey Milk of name It is reportedly removed “politics” from naval vessels from military naming rules. But how apolitical is it to erase the name of a man who gave the truth that told his life to power? A man who had to leave the Navy because he refused to remain silent about his sexuality? The man who became the first openly elected official in the United States?

I felt that this year was different. Pride has been suppressed. It was still provocative, loud and we didn’t apologise. But I wonder what we will do if there is fear and the state decides that it is no longer a constitution. I hope we are similar Hungary violates Orban’s pride ban.

Many of us in coastal cities are cheering on bystanders. Post an infographic. Change the avatar. Celebrate with a bottomless brunch. But what are we doing for people? KentuckyTexas, Florida, Idaho? or Strange kids Not to mention the rainbow, who won’t move forward? Are we fighting for them like the elders who fought for us?

We say this to awaken us, not to be ashamed of us.

The generation before we went through the fire and ran the marathon can’t stand on the finish line with the indication, “Yas, queen!” The baton is in our hands now. And the torch is more than just symbolic.

It’s still burning as the work isn’t finished.

Pride was born From the protest: It was a riot over police brutality and refused to be erased. That spirit is still important. Because the pendulum is swinging violently and quickly again. This time, we’re here for everything from books to physical, education, healthcare, trans siblings and queer visibility.

It’s fascinating to feel safe here in San Francisco. However, safety can breed self-satisfaction. And the truth is, if one of us is under attack, we are all. Queer liberation It’s not a local issue. It’s international.

Yes, go outside and celebrate your credibility. fun. Joy is also resistance. But remember that sadness is part of this story, and so is responsibility. Ask yourself what you are doing to protect the next generation. I’ll donate Legal Defense Fund. Supports queer youth organs. He will appear at a meeting of the Board of Education. Voting depends on it, like in your life.

Pride means more when you remember who made it possible. The parade doesn’t end with an after party. It ends when we all have the same rights, dignity and the opportunity to live completely free. We have inherited pride, let’s earn it now.

Grab the torch. Yes, it’s heavy. But now it belongs to us.
