Representatives from the National Conference of the Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas have overwhelmingly supported the resolution against same-sex marriage.

On June 10th, more than 10,000 church representatives, known as “Messengers,” were “voted without discussion to approve measures that encouraged the law and court decisions to overturn. Obergefellv. Hodgesit goes against God’s design for marriage and family.” Associated Press.

The resolution also calls for a law that “affirms marriage between one man and one woman.”

In the midst of Obergefell – Targeted by nine Republican-led Congresses and supported by Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas – will not automatically outlaw gay marriages across the country, allowing individual states to do so.

To honor marriages approved by Congress and signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2022, same-sex marriages will remain legal in 18 states that have never banned or have been repealed.

Legal recognition will also remain in Washington, D.C. and in the US territory overseas. Obergefell It has been overturned.

The ban in the remaining 32 states will be revived.

However, the governments of these states, and the federal government, should recognize same-sex marriages legally made in the other 18 states as valid and treat heterosexual marriages in relation to rights, tax benefits and child custody.

The Southern Baptist Convention appeal goes far beyond that Obergefell – Some conservatives, like US Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), claim that it was misdetermined. It requires all laws and court decisions that allow same-sex marriages and that recognize the relationships and parental rights of same-sex couples as equivalent to those of opposite-sex marriages.

The resolution against marriage equality was part of a broader statement addressing marriage, family structure and sexuality. It encourages that all civil law is rooted in biblical principles and sect’s religious beliefs. Specifically, he calls on lawmakers to “pass laws on marriage, gender, human life and family that reflect the truth of creation and natural law, and to reject laws that contradict “what God has made clear through nature and the Bible.”

The resolution calls for recognition of “the biological reality of men and women” and opposes laws and policies that “force people to speak falsely about sex and gender.”

The resolution embraces the views of pro-Natalists, urging Christians to “accept marriage and childbirth,” and seeks to frame family relations as a matter of public policy. For example, there is a demand for “a new moral clarity of moral clarity in public discourse about the crisis of fertility, and policies that support endured childcare for unharmed children.”

The resolution denies modern culture of “pursuing intentional childlessness that contributes to declining fertility,” and reflects Vice President J.D. Vance’s rhetoric.

Andrew Walker, chairman of the resolution committee and author of the measure, told reporters at a press conference. The passing of a non-binding resolution made it clear that Baptists in the South would never accept the validity of same-sex marriage – even if he acknowledged the logistical and practical challenges of repealing existing laws recognising such unions.

LGBTQ supporters have rejected the resolution as yet another attack by right-wing conservatives on LGBTQ people. and non-LGBTQ people, including religious individuals and congregations who have failed to live according to the moral warrants of the Southern Baptist Treaty.

“Equality in marriage is law. Love is love, and the right of LGBTQ+ couples to get married is supported by the overwhelming majority of Americans,” Laurel Powell, communications director for the Human Rights Campaign, told the British newspaper. Guardian In a statement.

“This is a very visible example of how attacks on the entire LGBTQ+ community have been strengthened, even if politicians are targeting transgender people as tactics that separate us.

In addition to approving the marriage and family resolution, the Messenger of the conference’s annual meeting passed another resolution denounced pornography as “destructive”, addictive and exploitative.

The resolution calls for a ban on “porn” material entirely. This is a term that covers much more in conservative terms than often explicit content.

It can range from any material that deviates from conservative beliefs about sexuality, gender, or morality. This includes non-Christian or LGBTQ characters, academic articles that do not promote a conservative Christian worldview, films, television shows, advertisements, or books featuring artwork that includes LGBTQ themes, nude, sexual content, or depictions of the human body.
