Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) has introduced a bill that would erase transgender identity from the law.
”Definition of the Gender Act 2024” aims to legislate gender-specific definitions for a variety of words, including terms such as “girl,” “boy,” “father,” “mother,” “woman,” and “man.” Masu.
The bill defines gender as a binary fixed at birth, and defines gender as a synonym for sex in certain circumstances, but does not explicitly include gender identity or expression.
The bill defines “male” and “female” as individuals who are born with, or would have, barring a congenital anomaly, a reproductive system capable of producing sperm or eggs for fertilization, respectively.
The bill states that “rare disorders of sexual development are not exceptions to the gender binary,” and that “in no case shall an individual’s gender be determined by regulation or self-identification.”
Marshall, an obstetrician-gynecologist by trade, said that because of recent “confusion” over the definition of sex (which he defined as “biological truth”), the bill would permanently set that meaning into law. They argue that it needs to be codified.
The bill also states that maintaining single-sex facilities or sports leagues based on physical differences between men and women will not be considered “unequal treatment under the law,” which would support transgender advocacy. This appears to be a measure to protect itself from lawsuits brought by the parties.
Marshall said in a news release that the bill pushes back against the Biden administration’s attempt to “replace biological sex with dangerous radical gender ideology,” bans transgender athletes from women’s sports, and bans transgender athletes from women’s sports, bans them from restrooms, lockers, etc. , dorm rooms, prisons, and shelters for victims of sexual assault continue to be segregated by gender.
“As a doctor who has delivered over 5,000 babies, I can confidently say that politicizing a child’s gender and using it as a pawn in a radical woke agenda is not only wrong; , is extremely dangerous,” Marshall said in a statement. “I never thought we needed a law saying there are only two genders: male and female, but here we are.”
Democrats currently hold a majority in the U.S. Senate, so the Marshall bill is unlikely to pass in the remaining Congress. But it is likely an indication that he might introduce it in the next Congress, when Republicans control the chamber.
The bill is likely to pass, as Republicans have unfettered control of Congress and a Republican president hopes to capitalize on his party’s support base. classification would effectively erase transgender people from the law.
Marshall’s bill is supported by a number of right-wing and anti-LGBTQ activist groups, including Heritage Action, Family Research Council, Concerned Women of America, and the Alliance Defending Freedom. Many of these organizations portray the actions as necessary to protect the safety and privacy of women and girls.
“There are only two genders: male and female, and denying this fundamental scientific truth hurts women, children, and families,” Matt Sharp, senior adviser at Alliance Defending Freedom, said in a statement. “As a result, men deprive deserving female athletes of athletic opportunities, children are forced to undergo dangerous sex-change drugs and surgeries, and schools lie to parents that their children are uncomfortable with their gender. will be created.
“Our laws should reflect biological truth, not erase it…Our government should prioritize the well-being of women, children and families, not extreme ideologies that depart from reality and common sense.” You should.”
