Indian scientists have discovered a rare intersex crab in the Western Ghats. hinduism I will report.
Bela kaluri, a type of freshwater crab, was found in the forests of Silent Valley National Park in Kerala and exhibited both male and female characteristics. Of a sample group of 120 crabs observed in tree holes, three were found to be suffering from this condition.
Humans born with both male and female characteristics are called intersex, but this condition is called feminism in the animal kingdom. Although this biological phenomenon is rare, it has been previously recorded in insects, crustaceans, and birds.
According to the researchers, the three Bela kari observed in the study are the first recorded examples of feminization in this species.
KS Anoop Das and KT Fahis of MES Manpad University’s Center for Conservation Ecology conducted the study in collaboration with crab scientist Sameer K. Pati and the Purnima Kumari Zoological Survey of India.
“We found male reproductive structures in the crab’s body, but female features such as gonadal pores were found in other parts of the crab’s body,” Das said of the crab.
Das also believes that the crab’s condition is due to its developmental process, rather than external pollution.
“There were no environmental contaminants in the crab habitat,” he explained. “We therefore believe that the reason for this phenomenon may be related to a survival strategy, which allows crabs to reproduce even in the absence of male or female members.”
Like animals, intersex humans are also extremely rare. Amnesty International estimates that 1.7 percent of the world’s population is born with intersex characteristics, a figure comparable to the number of people born with red hair.
