The American action-adventure CGI series follows the adventures of eight-year-old pirate Santiago and his crew as they work to protect their Caribbean homeland.
Some viewers claimed that Social media posts said the scene was relevant to the LGBTQ+ community, with one thread user saying he was shocked to see “two men kissing”.
According to malay maila spokesperson for the public relations department of the broadcaster, also known as Radio Television Gen Malaysia (RTM), said: “Based on the content assessment report and the tests conducted, there was no behavior or display of affection that suggested a same-sex relationship, and there was no element of any kind to suggest such behavior.”
“However, to ensure that there are no elements that could raise doubts or touch public sentiment, RTM [the national public broadcaster] I stopped broadcasting to do a more in-depth review of the series. ”
Mohd Nor Hamza, a member of the Islamist party PAS, said: said: “The subtle promotion of LGBTQ+ ideology through children’s cartoons poses a serious threat to the moral fabric of our society. As these influences become increasingly difficult to detect, it is important that governments scrutinize foreign media content before it reaches children.
“The government should prioritize local animation that reflects our culture and values, instead of allowing harmful foreign influences to penetrate the minds of our children.”
