Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) issued a public apology Thursday after a disturbance in a U.S. Capitol restroom was reported in which she accused a cisgender woman of being transgender. first reported incident everyday beastwhich occurred after Boebert confronted the woman and told her, “You shouldn’t be here.”

An anonymous Republican source said Boebert said McBride was in the women’s bathroom and called in Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), a known opponent of transgender-inclusive policies, to address the situation. I was impressed. Mace has been vocal in his criticism of policies that allow transgender people to use restrooms that match their gender identity, and reportedly “stormed” a restroom. . However, both Boebert and Mace quickly realized that the woman in question was not McBride, but a Cisgender individual.

Boebert later acknowledged her mistake, offered an apology, and clarified that it was a case of mistaken identity. “I made a mistake about mistaken identity,” she said in a statement. “I apologized and learned my lesson and it will never happen again.”

The incident unfolded as Boebert was reportedly upset by the presence of a “male” in the women’s bathroom. Boebert later told Bloomberg news reporter Billy House: [a man in the bathroom]but that wasn’t true. ”

House, who was present at the scene, described the event in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter). He recounted how Boebert emerged from a Capitol restroom during the voting series, visibly upset, and complained to a nearby security guard about the presence of a man in the women’s restroom. The house remained near the scene and several women were seen leaving the bathroom, including the woman Boebert initially accused of being McBride.

Shortly thereafter, Boebert returned to the bathroom. This time he was accompanied by Senator Mace. The two went into the bathroom, but quickly came out to find that Boebert was not what she had originally claimed.

“Who’s leaving this scene now? Not me,” House wrote, narrating the unusual scene. “But alas, just seconds after this duo entered the bathroom, they came back out and quietly settled back on the floor. A little bathroom alarmism?”

After the situation calmed down, House approached Boebert for an explanation. She admitted her mistake and said it was a case of mistaken identity. “I later asked Boebert what this was. She pointed out that I had heard her complain that there was a ‘guy’ in there.” To her credit, she admitted it was a mistake,” House wrote.

Boebert, a frequent critic of transgender rights, has made controversial statements regarding transgender issues in the past. She has been outspoken against blanket policies in schools, arguing that such policies “radicalize” students and contribute to mental health problems, including school shootings. I’m doing it. Her stance on transgender issues often puts her at odds with more progressive lawmakers, especially those who champion the rights of transgender individuals.

This incident is not the first time Boebert has been involved in a bathroom-related controversy. In January 2023, Boebert reportedly engaged in a heated argument with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in the Capitol’s women’s restroom. Both women are known for their vocal opposition to transgender rights, and the spat between them further highlighted the tensions surrounding the issue within the Republican Party.

While Boebert’s recent apology may calm the immediate fallout, the incident has once again focused attention on the contentious debate over transgender rights on Capitol Hill and beyond. This situation also highlights continuing cultural and political divides around issues of gender identity and inclusion.

Boebert’s public apology marks her moment of remorse as lawmakers continue to grapple with these sensitive issues. However, it remains to be seen whether this incident will influence her stance on transgender rights in the future.

For now, Boebert’s remarks serve as a reminder of the complexities surrounding gender identity and the importance of respectful dialogue on such issues. Despite her apology, the controversy is likely to continue, especially given the polarizing nature of the discussion.
