Transgender Day of Remembrance was held on Thursday, November 20th at Metropolitan Community Church in Washington, DC. The event was emceed by Racine Pendarvis and Dwight Benson. Music selections were provided by Agape Praise and Dynamic Praise. Proclamations from the DC Council and the DC Mayor’s Office have been released. The pouring of libations was officiated by Elder Pastor Akousa McCray and Pastor Paul Fulton Woods of Unity Fellowship Church. Comments were received from transgender victims of violence. The family of murdered trans woman Dream Johnson were among the speakers. Prayers were led by Pastors Kathy Alexander and Dwayne Johnson of Metropolitan Community Church in Washington, D.C., and Yael Shafritz offered a Jewish prayer through a video presentation. Community leader Earline Budd gave closing remarks.
