Since going solo after being a third of the successful girl band Little Mix, Perrie Edwards has been releasing banger after banger.
Perry, who was inducted into the Pop Girl Hall of Fame along with former bandmates Jade and Leigh-Anne, released her debut single “Forget About Us,” as well as “Tears” and “You Go Your Way.” It has been released. Recently, the South Shields-born icon performed ‘Me, Myself & You’ before letting the children listen to his festive song ‘Christmas Magic’.
Perry will perform all four of these singles, as well as “Christmas Magic,” at the Capital Jingle Bell Ball on Dec. 7, in an intimate acoustic set with Barclaycard Out of the Blue. Surprised some lucky fans.
Speaking exclusively to PinkNews ahead of her performance, Perry revealed that her divine debut album had been “in the works for a while” and revealed which TV show she “would love to appear on” as a guest judge (Jade and Leigh-Anne have both already appeared () Done) – and offer some heartfelt advice to queer fans this Christmas.
Pink News: Let’s get straight to the point! By the time this article comes out, I’ll be performing at the Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball with Barclaycard at The O2 – and We performed a very special intimate acoustic set with Barclaycard Out of the Blue. Why did you decide to do that set? And what are you most looking forward to?
Perry: As a solo artist, I have yet to do a proper acoustic session. This is my first set and I love acoustic sets because it’s so different from being on stage.
Obviously, I love being on stage. Because the stage is so big and there’s more space for big vocals and I can sing really powerfully and I can really come into my own. But on the other hand, I also love simple, drawn-back, calming, beautiful acoustic arrangements.
I think you could sing it a little more delicately. As an artist, it’s fun to change things up a bit!
But I like the idea of belting it out and belting it out a meter away from the fans’ faces.
Can you imagine? I’m really vocal and I’m fully aware of that. When you sing in full voice, many. That’s why I don’t want to get too intense.
Personally, I don’t think anyone will complain. We have just released our first Christmas single. christmas magicthis is clearly a banger. Why was now the time for Perrie Edwards to perform a celebratory song?
I’m obsessed with Christmas. It’s always been something that just excites me. The decor, the atmosphere, the crowd, the food, the twinkling lights. I literally love Christmas.
I always knew I wanted to do a Christmas song, and I wanted it to be a timeless classic, but also something new and a little nostalgic. So I wanted it to be perfect, but just know when you feel like, “I have to do this.”
And I was able to make it happen. It was a very quick turn around, but I love a challenge. So why not? I sent messages to people I like. Trey, who I work with a lot, Nina, who is amazing, and Jez, who is supposed to be an elf because she loves Christmas, and I said, “You know what? “This is a little short notice, but would you like to give it a try?” What will be your Christmas song this year?
How long was that period?
If you distribute it to streaming platforms, radio, etc., or create a video, it typically takes two to three weeks.
It was like, “I need to write a song in a few days, then I’ll record it on the spot, send it to the label, and then I’ll make the next song.” Get it out. Although it was a lot of pressure, I felt deep down that I knew exactly what I wanted.
If you could collaborate with any artist for Christmas, who would it be?
Ideally, I’d like to make a whole Christmas album. Like I said, I’m hooked!
The more the merrier, I think it’s like acoustic “Christmas magic” or something. And of course I hope that “Christmas Magic” becomes a classic song that everyone listens to every year.
I had an idea. There are two amazing pop stars in LeeAnne and Jade. I think collaborating with them will sound really good.
Little Mix’s Christmas songs are very popular every year! I love that song and Leigh Anne wrote it, so I’m thinking about her. I hope I can listen to it all year round.
There were no covers in this set, but you performed at the Summertime Ball and played Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” What was that moment like for you?
That Whitney cover was one of the best moments of my life. I had my element, and it’s so funny, because I wanted it to come out of “Tears,” but “Tears” is in a different key.
My team said, “If you’re going to cover Whitney, the first thing you should do is cover Whitney.” But secondly, you need to sing in a key one higher than the one you were singing in now. ”
We rehearsed it and I was like, “Oh my god, can we do this?” And we had just finished the dance break, so and I was singing it live. So all you haters out there who think I’m mine, leave me alone. To be honest, I’ve taken it seriously and worked hard on it and I’m very proud of it.
To be honest, it was also the best moment of my life.
It was so good that I would like to do it again.
Now, for queer fans, Christmas isn’t necessarily the easiest time to go home to your family. What advice would you give them? Apart from streaming “Christmas Magic.”
My advice is to know that you are your true authentic self, even if you feel uncomfortable with the way people on the outside treat you or your family and people don’t necessarily understand you. That’s enough. Because you are enough. You are loved and loved.
I have to ask. What’s going on with your debut album?
It sounds pretty good, if I do say so myself. It feels like it’s been over for a while, but I did some writing sessions last week and I really liked what I did. So I guess I don’t want to release anything that’s not 100% what I want because I’m not in a hurry to do anything. Because I’m such a perfectionist.
I’m just going to keep writing, keep adding, and make sure I like the sound of it 100% before I release it. It’s pretty complete. I just added, “je ne sais quoi.”
You’re also the only ex-Little Mix girl not judging rupaul’s drag race uk;Is it on your Christmas wish list?
It’s very funny that you said that. claudimerhe’s my best friend, he’s currently choreographing a show, and he’s doing great, I’m so proud of him – but he keeps texting me , said, “Baby, they keep asking if you’ll be on the show!”
You actually need to do that. But I have to say that I have never watched the entire season from start to finish. I look at it and feel I need to know more after that Go and judge. Because I used to watch it with the girls on tour, and I want to eat it all, but I love it.
Jade loves to judge and so does Leigh Anne, she was excited. It’s fun, so I’d like to try it.
She is a professional and a lady.
