The unsubstantiated claim states that the 28-year-old actor has donated $1 million to “advocacy groups.” This latest rumor comes just weeks after conspiracy theorists claimed she was secretly transgender.

“Advocacy groups applauded the move, saying the funding could significantly strengthen health care, education and support programs.
“During the discussion about the donation, Mr. Sweeney allegedly said that he hoped ‘a cure could be found.'”
In the comments, one user said, “It’s a shame how many people think this is true.” Another wrote: “Obviously this isn’t real.”

Many comments seemed to believe the post, which also sparked a significant amount of anti-LGBTQ+ hate speech. “They need a cure…it’s a disease that needs real funding,” one person wrote. Another comment (which we reported to Meta) incited violence against the queer community: “There is a cure. Slugs and bullets.”

Aside from this fabricated “news,” Sweeney’s controversial comments recently made headlines.
In a new interview with cosmopolitanSweeney said she didn’t want to get involved with claims that she was a “MAGA Barbie.”
“I’ve never been here to talk about politics. I’ve always been here to make art, so this is not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of.”
“I think because of that, people want to take it further and use me as their pawn. But it’s someone assigning something to me and I have no control over that.”
She went on to say that while she is “not a hateful person,” there is “no chance” when it comes to debunking MAGA.
“I can’t make everyone love me. I know what I stand for,” she also said.
Mr. Sweeney was embroiled in controversy last year after an ad for American Eagle’s “Great Jeans” was deemed to be in line with right-wing political views. Many argued that the ad downplayed the rhetoric of white supremacists and eugenicists.
The Trump administration defended the ad, calling those who outraged it “stupid and despicable.”
This was not the first time Mr. Sweeney had been drawn into right-wing politics. In 2022, she shared an image of her family wearing MAGA hats and “Blue Lives Matter” shirts.
In response to the controversy, Sweeney tweeted: “This is outrageous, everyone. An innocent celebration of my mother’s 60th birthday turned into an absurd political statement that got no attention. Stop making assumptions.”
