I admire websites that do exactly what they say, and there’s no better example than Subreddit. NFL_Bulges.
You won’t find any discussion here of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ mistakes at key moments in Monday night’s shock loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Instead, you’ll find Jalen Hurts Bulge.
This site has 5,000 members (top 10%) Ranking by sizeIts message (according to Reddit’s aptly named metric) is simple: “The place to post the NFL’s best bulges.”
The posts are generated from photos of the games and what we see on TV. Team’s NFL Instagram Posts Content is mined:
Get off the sidelines and get in the game
Our weekly newsletter is packed with information on everything from locker room chatter to pressing LGBTQ sports issues.
Members follow these instructions to the letter: Each post has a short title followed by a full-frame image of an NFL player (and the occasional college player) showing off their bulging physique.
The titles of the current posts are diverse, some are catchy, some are direct – after all, people are here to look at pictures, not to read things with double meanings.
The attention to detail is obsessive in some cases, and some players, like Bengals kicker Evan McPherson, are obvious favorites on the site, with multiple posts dedicated to him.
Posters seem to love the slightly sheer material of the uniforms, with one enthusiast writing: “I love how you can see the outline of the head through the bulge, which tells you if some of the men are circumcised or not.”
Speaking of obsession, just take a look at the multiple screen captures of Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs from Sunday night’s game on NBC: The CIA couldn’t have done a more detailed analysis.
“I just can’t understand why gays love football” is my favorite comment on this post, and one of the reasons I find this site so interesting. Even though I’m not a fan of bulges, gay men appreciate the skill and artistry inherent in the sport, and enjoy the aesthetic bonus of pleasing the eye.
The great thing about this site is that even though many posts are labeled “not for work,” all of the images come from mainstream photo sources and from what everyone sees on TV. This should be a new target demographic for the NFL and its advertisers: a group of dedicated fans who will watch every minute of the game just to get a glimpse of the Bulge. The NFL should launch a “Bulge Channel” in their Sunday Ticket packages. Viewership would skyrocket.
I have asked the moderators some basic questions about the site, but have not received a reply. They must be busy looking for more bulges.
