it’s clear RuPaul’s Drag Race Finalist Lux Noir London is “more than a drag queen.” New album, Light in the Dark, and Drag: Musicalthat’s pretty obvious.
She shot to fame during the flagship show’s 15th season, making it into the top four alongside Mistress Isabel Brooks, Anetra and Sasha Colby.
Though she missed out on the crown, Lux won over legions of fans with her unwavering confidence, glamorous fashion and brutal honesty.
She told PinkNews: that Luzi LaDuca moment Wiggle Room: Rusicalwhy people are surprised by the contents of her new album, and two things she needs to do before she considers a comeback All Star.
PinkNews: First Drag: Musicalyou star alongside many other actors. Drag Racing My Queen, how did this happen?
Luxe Noir London: It was a sudden thing. I didn’t expect to be auditioned. [but] The opportunity arose and I decided to take part, and I am very happy to be a part of it.
What was the audition like? Alaska ThunderfuckWho is the co-writer of this musical?
I’ve worked with her before so it wasn’t too taxing mentally, but I was definitely excited because she’s someone I admire. Our relationship is magical and there’s an unspoken language that a lot of people don’t realize at first, until you’re like, “Oh, here we go again.” Drag Racing reference.”
What is your favorite? Drag Racing reference?
It used to be that Kennedy Davenport would walk into the workroom and Jasmine Masters would say, “Kennedy, Kennedy.” Now, during an acting challenge in Season 7, Pearl says, “My monkeys made potato salad for you.”
What is most interesting to you? Drag: Musical?
I just do it. I haven’t been in a musical since 2020 when I was in college. When I dropped out, I was like, “I guess I’m not going to do musicals anymore.” But it all comes full circle.
Why do you think so?
Back then, my goals, my life, and who I was were completely different than they are now. [from] I used to have a lot of ideas for myself but now I just go with the flow of opportunities that life brings.
Tell us about your role. Drag: Musical?
My character’s name is Popcorn, or Poppy for short. Everyone calls her Poppy except her dad. She’s a big-time fashionista with a big personality and a loud, colorful personality.
You said 2020 was your last year in a musical, but we all Wiggle Room: Rusical (Season 15’s Musical Challenge) remains one of the most highly rated episodes to date. Drag Racing The best ever. What was it like?
It’s amazing when you think about it. For me, that episode Drag Racing It’s a monumental moment for me because in many ways I was the lead. It’s very interesting that I was in contention for the lead role. Wigglesand I’m still not leading Drag: MusicalYou may not always be a leader, and that’s okay with me.
That episode also had your famous answer to “Who should go home first and why?” How does it feel looking back on that scene with Lucy LaDuca now?
I didn’t feel like, “Oh, I got her” at the time. I still don’t feel that way now, because that wasn’t my style and it wasn’t my goal or purpose. But it made for really good TV and I think that’s one of the reasons my season won so many Emmys. And now I’m an iconic Drag Racing This moment. There’s nothing more I could have wished for. Me and Rosie sit here now and laugh about it.
New album, Light in the darkness, has been released. How does it feel to have worked on it for so long?
It’s really good music. I’m excited for people to see a different side of me that they haven’t seen on TV or in my past work, how I think, act and my musical talent. This is me as a fully matured artist.
Was pop always Luxx’s plan?
In my mind, Lux has always been a pop star, a socialite. She was more than just a drag queen. And now I’m doing everything I can to make Lux more human. [who] Of course she will be associated with drag queens, but I don’t want people to only see her as a drag queen, because she is so much more than that.
You worked with Fred Velvet, who is also RuPaul’s producer, on this album. What was that like?
It’s a dream come true. He takes all the crazy ideas I have in my head and bounces them off of me and helps me come up with concepts, words, or feelings I have for songs. The end result is amazing.
And RuPaul is definitely an icon of mine. It’s incredible that I get to work with him. [who] She’s working with him. But Fred is more than RuPaul’s producer. He’s an incredible talent and visionary. [of] I’m pleased that he is being properly recognized as someone with a keen ability to create and cultivate sound on his own.
Is there anything on this album that will surprise people about Luxx?
People would be surprised to hear that I sometimes feel sad and insecure. They would also be surprised at my knowledge of actual music techniques. People would also be surprised that I feel these things about myself, because everyone knows that I am a person who only has high feelings about myself. But I have now gained enough confidence to discuss and share my insecurities.
Can you pinpoint exactly when that change occurred?
My season is Drag Racing After the broadcast, I received a lot of online harassment and people said all kinds of things about me that I knew weren’t true. For a moment, I started to get angry at what they were saying. Then I thought to myself, “If I don’t have my confidence shaken by thousands of people telling me I’m worthless, then I’m in a place where I can hold my own.”
What is your favourite song on the album and why?
Sonically, one of my favorites is “Ave Narcisa.” It’s an expression of my love for music and sound. Not necessarily pop music or songwriting, but actual choral music. It’s my best work vocally, and the technical stuff they do on this song is just crazy. I’ve never heard anyone do anything like that before.
What was the inspiration for the album? Besides Ru?
Lady Gaga is everything to me. Subconsciously, she is always on my mood board. As an artist, I am never afraid to say that she inspires me. So, if her work is reflected in my work, I know I am doing a good job, because for me, her work is the pinnacle of art.
Going back to Rue, it’s pretty clear that she’s been in love with you since season 15. What was that like?
I was relieved and pleased that she enjoyed me, but I was also very curious as to why she enjoyed me so much. I don’t want to say it was because I was like her, but I was very mysterious. I was very young and innocent, yet I had a vast knowledge of history and a vast repertoire to draw from, which was confusing to her.
“I hope one day people will look at my pictures the same way they look at Le’s pictures. Everyone in show business will say they want to be seen as the ultimate. And my plan is to become the ultimate.”
Last question: Where is Luxx Noir London located? To All Star return?
I [more than] 1 million views Light in the Darkand I got into Billboard. Until then, I don’t know if I’ll come back, and I don’t know if the public is ready for me to come back. [they cast me on the same season as Loosey].
Light in the Dark teeth Streamable now.
