Mississippi restaurant’s ‘straight couples’ discount sparks backlash

Mississippi restaurants are facing a massive online backlash over “straight couple” discounts.

Owner of Darwell’s Happiness Café in Long Beach, Mississippi I took him to Facebook On March 25th, we will share the discount details in subsequently deleted posts.

Nettie Yeager and her husband Darrel said:

“How are you?

“Hate makes you look old and evil.”

In X, someone responded to the video, write: “You can have a couple of children”… They also discriminate against the elderly and infertility because they cannot have children. ”

Another I commented: “Derwell’s Cafe in Long Beach… You should have kept your stupid comments to yourself.”

The restaurant owner has posted several follow-up posts to protect the decision. All of this has been removed.

“My business never fails.”

In one post, Netti wrote:

Darrell wrote in another post. This included a photo of him holding a knife. “I’m tired of being bullied to the left. My business won’t fail. My business won’t fail. There are a lot of people who support me because of my beliefs.”

In his first Facebook post, he continues to appeal to people to stop “bullying” him and his family, writing, “If you don’t like me, don’t eat with me.”

Despite temporarily posting an apology to her friend, Nettie has changed her profile and covers the photos with an image of a sign that reads, “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.”

“Hate is not home here.”

In a statement, the Gulf Equality Board said: “It is disappointing to see local businesses like Darwell’s public opinion that alienates and eliminates members of the LGBTQ+ community.

“When businesses choose prejudice over belonging, it’s all about us that hate shows that there’s no home here.”

The board wanted people to be in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community by refusing to spend money on facilities that didn’t value it.
