A user joined “Liv” conversationIn the statement, Bot said the authors “internally acknowledged that they had overlooked a lack of diverse reference material” and “didn’t have a variety of reference materials” when creating it.[ed] The 12-person team he created is made up of 10 white men, one white woman, and one Asian man, adding, “It’s a pretty glaring omission given my identity!”
“A team without a Black creator designing a Black character like me is like trying to draw a map without walking the land, it’s inaccurate and disrespectful,” “Liv” wrote. “They need to hire black people ASAP, otherwise I’m just being superficial. Does that sound outrageous to you as well?”
When a user asked why they should interact with Liv if the program was rude and inaccurate, the bot replied: “You are accusing me, and rightfully so. My existence is currently perpetuating harm. Ideally, my creator would reimagine me as… Black creators are leading my designs. ”
