“I think it’s good to have a light boot to the first message. Right? You’ve become a little more gentle and catching their eye,” Megan Starter told Gatey when asked about her dating app go-tos.
The comedian is currently promoting her upcoming series excessivelystarring Jessica, starring Netflix’s new romantic doramedy (streaming July 10th) starter. She runs away to London to be alone, but instead stumbles on something real with Felix (Will Sharp), a man full of charming red flags.
Big heart and messy lead
But the show explores more than just a romantic connection. As creator Lena Dunham said, excessively It’s about people who understand that.
“I wanted to show someone with Jessica that they’re really bothering, really complicated, really good, pure heart,” Dunham said. “She says the wrong thing, she puts her feet in her mouth, but she always tries, and she always wants to make everyone feel seen and reflected. And I love that she is her lover and she is kind of like – Mygan and I keep making jokes. She is a good girl.”
That’s what makes Jessica’s relationship with Felix so refreshing. It is not saved by love. It’s about feeling like you again.
“What I want people to understand is that it’s not about finding a relationship that is the ultimate test of who you are as a person,” Dunham explained. “It’s just that Felix realizes that she makes her life better. He makes her feel happy. He makes her feel like she is. And if she hasn’t found it, if she finds it with her friends, mother and sister, or dog, it was a completely ok version of life.”
What is Meat Cute?
And how about that encounter? “I really enjoyed the film, how unconventional it was, how real it was,” interviewer Caitlyn McDaniel said. “And the part that really sticks out to me was of course meaty cute. Which means who doesn’t like meeting in the dirty pub bathroom?”
“It’s very romantic,” joked Starter.
Sharp’s own love story had a similarly confusing start. “I met… so when we were on the show, the other half of me Causes It’s like medical drama to be in the UK,” he shared. “And the first scene we had together, I see a cut head in the field, then I go back and slam my face into the ambulance. And she had to do a kind of routine test of my vision. It was pretty weird… I think it was our first encounter.”
The Starter story may sound more familiar, but it’s still a coincidence. “I met my girlfriend on a dating app,” she said. “We had a really crazy sync, and our first date wasn’t the same as the set you were describing, but I… I… I… I… I say… I think it’s funny. We hadn’t actually seen them in years… six years later.
When the starter summed it up, “We sent lots of audio notes before we met. I liked it. I already felt like I knew her.”
Whether you avoid ambulance doors or discuss the opening line with hinges, excessively Get it. Love is troublesome. People are strange. But if they make you feel more you-It’s something worth keeping.
