McDonald’s is the latest U.S. company to roll back its diversity, equity and inclusion policies as conservatives continue to mount public pressure to eliminate initiatives and programs they believe are discriminatory.
The company said in a statement on January 6 that it will not set specific diversity goals, such as requiring suppliers to commit to specific DEI goals.
However, the fast food chain will not completely disband so-called “affinity groups” at individual franchises and will continue to report demographic information on executives, employees and suppliers in its annual purpose and impact report. .
The company also said it would cease participating in external investigations in order to “focus on the work we are doing internally to grow our business.”
Although it did not name specific organizations, its decision to decline to participate in external investigations reflects actions taken by other companies to distance themselves from human rights campaigns. McDonald’s announced that it will change the name of its diversity team to the “Global Inclusion Team” and shift the focus of the team’s work.
“We are proud of our work at McDonald’s,” the company said in an email to franchise owners, employees and suppliers. “We are committed to driving economic impact and innovation through our robust supply chain, building a pipeline of franchisees that thrive in the communities we serve and strengthen our business. We continue to drive performance through all three pillars of our business, especially our people’s practices.Growth.
“We need to continue to create an environment where we can all succeed,” the statement concluded. “Thank you for your commitment to making McDonald’s a place where everyone feels welcome and included.”
McDonald’s said it was motivated to change its approach to DEI following recent misconduct Supreme Court ruling on affirmative actionas well as actions by other companies to roll back or eliminate DEI efforts in the face of boycott threats.
Companies that have rescinded or eliminated DEI policies in the past year include Walmart, Stanley Black & Decker, Molson Coors, Ford Motor Company, Lowe’s Hardware, and Harley-Davidson.
Recently, retail giant Costco refused to reverse its DEI efforts and policies despite pressure to do so. The board even asked shareholders to reject a proposal that would have required the company to report on “the risks of continuing its DEI efforts.”
As a result, the company is facing calls for a boycott from conservatives who believe DEI is “reverse discrimination” against whites, Asians, men, and straight people.
Robbie Starbuck, the pro-Trump MAGA activist who has been at the forefront of eradicating DEI initiatives from American companies, congratulated McDonald’s announcement. on X.
Big news: @McDonalds is ending many woke DEI policies today. So let me explain what changed and how.
Three days ago, I told MacDonald that I was going to write an article about the politics that woke up there. Today they announced the following changes:

“[McDonald’s] How many people of each race you hire ends your diversity “goal.” “Many people (including myself) have referred to these types of ‘goals’ as quotas because they often function as quotas that discriminate against white job applicants,” Starbuck said. is writing.
“They will no longer participate in HRC’s Woke Corporate Equality Index scoring system, which forces a transgender agenda into the workplace in exchange for perfect scores. They will no longer participate in other third-party surveys.” he exclaimed. “They are ending the DEI pledge for supply chains, which means there will be no diversity quotas or “goals” when it comes to selecting and prioritizing suppliers. From now on, the focus will be on achievements…. The Age of Awakening is coming to an end before our eyes. The situation in American business is rapidly shifting toward sanity and neutrality. ”
