Bisexual actor Clayton Farris, who plays the character Terry, has an answer as to why. weaponsAunt Gladys becomes gay icon in new interview rough draft atlanta.

In director Zack Creger’s horror film, a class of elementary school students disappear from their homes in the middle of the night. Only two people remain in the class: teacher Justin (Julia Garner) and sole student Alex (Cary Christopher).

Faris will play one half of a gay couple who partner up with school principal Marcus (Benedict Wong). Things get even more confusing when Alex’s mysterious and flamboyant Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan) arrives.

The disturbing character of Aunt Gladys quickly captured the hearts of LGBTQ+ viewers and placed her in the category of iconic female roles. In fact, Aunt Gladys was a very popular niche gay Halloween look this year. She looks quite striking with her bright red hair and micro bangs, dirty red lipstick, and bright teal glasses.

Faris thinks he has the answer as to why Gladys appeals to gay people. talk to rough draft atlantaFarris explained: “Gladys can be seen as a bad character or an antagonist, but I’m looking at a character who’s been in the mud for a while, going through a lot of suffering, using drugs, and this is her coming out.

“As someone who was often bullied in that field as a child, I think there’s something that resonates with me every time I see a character like Gladys out loud and proud.” [with] The queer community and everyone, because that’s what people want: the courage to be themselves. ”

“People fell in love with these characters right away.”

This is an observation that applies to queer pop culture, where antiheroes who defy norms often intrigue audiences.

Mr. Farris further stated: weapons It also shows that homosexual relationships are normal.

“We get to see queer characters just living their lives. [that] They’re happy, and the storyline isn’t about them being gay or being horribly bullied or anything we’re familiar with,” the actor added.

“I think that’s why what happened to my character and Marcus caused such an uproar, because people instantly fell in love with these characters and it’s a horror movie. [they] Please come to an end soon. ”

Criticisms of the “bury your gays” metaphor have been used to question Terry and Marcus’s representation. Faris outlined that while he understands the criticism, he has his own perspective on the subject.

“I understand. From the perspective of making a movie, [perspective]it did really well story-wise and writing-wise because people love those characters,” he said.

“That change that happens in the scene where Gladys appears. You feel the room change. This is becoming sinister. When people say that, I want to verify, people have to die in fear.”

Shortly after Weapons debuted, there was talk of a possible Aunt Gladys prequel movie. Cregger has since confirmed its authenticity and is in talks with Warner Bros. about the project.

Creger said. fangoria: “There’s a story and I’m really excited about it. I’m not bull**t.”
