Capital Pride Alliance, the group that hosts most of D.C.’s LGBTQ Pride events, invites the community to a live and virtual “Evening with LGBTQ+ Heroes” on Jan. 7, honorees of the group’s annual Heroes Awards. Announced.
The event was held in partnership with Team Rayceen Productions, a local LGBTQ event organization, and the 50th Anniversary Subcommittee of World Pride 2025 in Washington, D.C., according to a statement.
“The Capital Pride Alliance celebrates 50 years of Pride in our nation’s capital,” the announcement states. “As part of that celebration, we would like to introduce some of the community organizers who have been honored by our organization.”
“We invite you to join us for monthly virtual live events where we share our thoughts on the history of our heroes and the meaning of Pride,” the announcement added.
The event will be held at the Human Rights Campaign headquarters, 1640 Rhode Island Avenue, N.W., on Tuesday, January 7th at 6:45 p.m. According to the announcement, the event will be accessible virtually at the following URL: capitalpride.org/evening-heroes/
Capital Pride heroes scheduled to speak at the event include:
•Bishop Allison Abrams, pastor, bishop and spiritual leader of the Cathedral of Empowerment and Liberation in DC.
• Ed Bailey, nightclub and bar owner and operator of DC bars Number Nine and Trade.
• Ben DeGuzman, Director of Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, DC Mayor’s Office
• Kenya Hutton, President and CEO of the DC Center for Black Equity. Center that hosts D.C.’s annual Black Pride Celebration
• Rayceen Pendarvis. She is a DC-based event organizer, interviewer, speaker, and advocate for the LGBTQ community, especially hosting events with Team Rayceen Productions.
• Bobbi Elaine Strang is a veteran local transgender activist who has held leadership positions in local organizations including the Gay and Lesbian Activist Alliance, DC Anti-Violence Coalition, Capital Stonewall Democratic Party, and Washington Metropolitan Community Church. I’ve been doing it.
The event will be moderated by Benjamin Coy, communications and marketing campaign manager for the National LGBTQ Task Force and Action Fund, and event host and co-host for Team Rayceen Productions.
