Pop Princess Kim Petras is officially in the era of “the protagonist of the Rave.” The Grammy Award winner sparked a frenzy online after debuting a snippet for the unreleased song “Freak It” at the Balenciaga Couture afterparty in Paris.
Hosted at an intimate salon at Avenue George V, the celebration marked the iconic final bow of Designer Demna’s tenure in Balenciaga. Naturally, the guest list was stacked. Naomi Campbell and Margo XS bumped into the deck, and Cobra Snake was on hand to record fashion, sweat and smoke hazes of cigarettes. But it was Kim who stole the spotlight with the surprise banger that the crowd and fans had fans online, rather than a walk on the runway.
Welcome to Freak Show
While rotating the track and working on the microphone, Kim dropped an exclusive preview of “Freak It.” This is a sultry bass-heavy cut that suggests a return to acquiescence and physical movement sounds that will help make her a queer icon. The snippets don’t give much lyrically, but the intense beats, distorted synths and provocative energy rocked the party crowd visible, and the phone flew off to capture the moment.
In true Petra fashion, it was sexy, confusing and totally euphoric. It’s already featured in the type of song you’ve heard once and in the set list of the already sweaty Pride performances and blasts from the Fire Island cabana.
Fan reaction: “I need it yesterday.”
Fans wereted no time after the “Freak It” clip began to circulate on social media.
“I need it! Summer Songs!!” tweeted by one user.
“Freak it out before I lose my heart,” another wrote along with the party clip.
“Polo and this? She’s cooking!” Commented to a Tiktok fan.
Many show a bold new chapter of Petra defined by her just-released single “Polo” by her bold new chapter of the film, defined by her cocky club bangers, glitchy pop productions and full throttle queer energy.
The “Polo” era has just begun
Petras’ latest single, “Polo,” dropped before her latest Pride performance, and served as the artist’s Sonic Reset. “It makes me feel cute and like a bitch!” she said, explaining the playful but confident energy of the track. Created alongside collaborators Margo XS, Nightfeelings and Atlgrandma, the song is layered with twisted synths and flirty hooks that you’d like to dance.
If this Balenciaga afterparty moment was any indication, Kim Petras’ new era is hot, unfiltered and built for the club. We are ready to be surprised.
