“You want to know what really bothers me? How mean people are about it,” Jenner continued. “It’s not a welcoming arm that says, ‘Hey, if that’s you, yes, come join us.’ It’s not nice. It’s very mean. It’s just like, ‘What are you doing?’
“I’ve seen some really bad things that were ‘bad for business,’ and I thought, ‘What? Why?’ I don’t know.”
Jenner’s complaints reflect a long-standing reality in Hollywood, where many celebrities later revealed that they were advised by managers and industry insiders not to come out if they wanted to keep their jobs. At the same time, the internet continues to prove just how toxic conversations surrounding sexuality can be, from accusations of queerbaiting to intrusive speculation about celebrities’ private lives.
Still, Jenner said he would come out if he were gay because he feels he has enough support in his life.
