Katy Perry Call her daddy When asked why he chose to work with controversial producer Dr. Luke on a new album despite his highly publicized lawsuit with Kesha, a podcast listener gave a puzzling response.

The “Firework” singer appeared on the podcast on Sept. 4, where host Alex Cooper asked her about the backlash she’s received over her collaboration with Dr. Luke on her upcoming album. 143.

Cooper noted that “a lot of people have expressed disappointment and are really upset” that Dr. Luke was on the album due to his legal history with Kesha. Dr. Luke worked on Perry’s most recent singles, “Woman’s World” and “Lifetimes.”

“Look, I understand that it sparked a lot of conversations,” Perry began, “and he’s one of the many collaborators that I’ve had, but the reality is, it came from me.

“The truth is, I wrote these songs out of the transformation that I’ve gone through throughout my life, and he was one of the people that helped facilitate all of that. One of the lyricists, one of the producers. I’m speaking from my own experience,” she said.

But as a social media user pointed outPerry then appeared to steer clear of the unnecessary topic of motherhood rather than address the elephant in the room.

“When I talk about Woman’s World, I talk about how empowered I feel right now as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, bringing life into being, creating new organs. A brain! A heart! I created a complete heart! And I did that and I’m still doing it,” she added.

“I’m still the matriarch and I still feel really grounded in that, that’s who I am. So I’ve crafted it with some of the collaborators that I’ve worked with in the past,” she said. [the] Teenage Dream Period. All of it.”

Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukas Gottwald, was accused of abusing Kesha in 2014. Gottwald strongly denied the allegations, and the pair settled Gottwald’s defamation lawsuit last year, at a time when other singers, including collaborators Kim Petras and Kelly Clarkson, also spoke out.

The “Hot N’ Cold” hitmaker is set to perform at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on September 11, where he will receive the Video Vanguard Award.

Katy Perry’s new album 143 It is scheduled to be released on September 20th.
