Madeline and Richelle’s intentional and intimate lesbian wedding at a St. Louis brewery featured a ladies-only event and a fun after-party, where the newlyweds showed off their swing dancing skills for their first dance.
Madeline and Richelle met through a mutual ex-boyfriend. After Madeline and her ex-boyfriend broke up, the two started talking, became friends, and quickly realized they had feelings for each other. The first time they met in person was in the parking lot of a queer bar in St. Louis called Rehab, after they’d gone to a drag show with friends at another queer bar in St. Louis called Attitudes.
Richelle proposed during a lavish picnic in Bentonville, Arkansas, over the holidays to celebrate their two-year anniversary. Unbeknownst to the couple, the park and museum where they picnicked was hosting a Pride event, which included a drag show, drinks, and art exhibits.
Before the ceremony, the couple had their bridal portraits taken at one of their favorite spots to hang out in downtown St. Louis, the City Museum. The brides started getting ready with their wedding party at Fleur de Lis Mansion B&B. The ceremony was held at Earthbound Brewery, and only the ladies were invited (except for their fathers). For the photos, the guests were allowed into the brewery’s cavernous lager cellar. During the ceremony, as a ritual of togetherness, everyone poured water into a common bowl. To make it more meaningful, the water for the ceremony was brought from the guests’ homes. The reception was simple with appetizers and cupcakes, and they got to mingle. They also had a huge after-party with friends at Hamel’s Pub, a lesbian bar in St. Louis, where the couple had their first dance. For their first dance, the couple showed off their swing dancing hobby, which they had taken up together.
