A Democrat running in Illinois gave a perfect response to a Christian organization’s anti-transgender candidate survey.

While campaigning for the state’s 7th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, Reed Showalter, 32, recently received a survey from the Illinois Family Institute, a Christian nonprofit. The form asked about his stance on a variety of issues, including LGBTQ+ and abortion rights, with an emphasis on transgender participation in sports.

Rather than just filling out answers, Showalter said, — Who is straight? — I decided to take the alliance a step further by filling the form with glitter.

“One of the fun things about running for office is that you get bombarded with surveys from organizations asking you where you stand. Whether you would support them or consider actively campaigning against them, including some of the weirdest, most goblin-like people on the planet,” Showalter said in a video posted to Instagram.

“For example, the Illinois Family Institute is ‘boldly bringing a Biblical perspective to public policy in the Land of Lincoln,’ which I assume means opposing abortion and LGBT interests for them,” he continued. “It means withholding federal funds from schools that allow transgender people to participate in sports. In fact, to be very specific, it means ‘allowing biological males to participate in women’s sports.'” So they oppose transgender people, but only from male to female, not vice versa. ”

Showalter pointed out that the group included questions about trans women in women’s sports twice, adding with a laugh, “They’ve done it twice like crazy. They’re into it.” He then tossed several vials of glitter into the envelope before sealing it.

The act, known as “glitter bombing,” became popular as a form of protest in the 2010s, most notably during 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign. The idea is that upon opening, the glitter “explodes” all over the place, creating a mess that is both wonderful and nearly impossible to clean. Although annoying, it’s ultimately harmless.

Mr. Showalter is a graduate of New York University and Columbia Law School, and has served as an attorney at the Federal Trade Commission, as an advisor to the U.S. Department of Justice, and as a senior policy advisor to the White House National Economic Council. his platform It primarily focuses on worker rights and affordability in food, housing, and health care.

Showalter is also an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and opposes “genocide and war crimes in Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Myanmar and everywhere else where people face the senseless specter of violence and death.” Website.

a Comprehensive review Several studies of transgender participation in sports under their gender identity have found that transgender athletes are “closer to their gender identity” after transitioning. The report noted that there is a wide disparity in the performance of transgender and cisgender athletes.

“It may not be clear yet, but this organization is gleefully transphobic and homophobic, so I think it’s only right that they have a little bit of shine in their lives,” Showalter concluded in the video.
