Carolee Burley passed away suddenly on October 30, 2024 at her home in Washington, DC. She was 60 years old.
She died from complications of type 1 diabetes.
She was born on September 2, 1964 in Ft. To Paul L. Burley and Judith I. Burley, Walton Beach, Florida.
She graduated from Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida in 1982 and from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He then earned a law degree from Georgetown University Law School in Washington, DC.
Burley was a lawyer specializing in contracts and mergers in Washington.
In addition to his father, Burley was preceded in death by his life partner of 38 years, Eileen Garner. She is survived by her mother Judith Ireland, stepfather Jerrold Nussbaum, brother John Burley, sister-in-law Lena Burley, brother Jason Burley, brother-in-law Ben Burley, and nephew Jack Burley. That leaves Alex Burley. .
Burley has been an active member of Washington’s gay recovery community and has sponsored many people over the years. She was recently recognized for her 40 years of sobriety and is living proof of the mantra, “Let go and keep what you have.” Her generosity and integrity were evident in everything she did. There wasn’t a single fake bone in her body. And, as one friend described her, she was “the kindest person I’ve ever met.”
Over the years, Burley has been deeply committed to the care and protection of his own dogs and rescue dogs around the world.
A memorial service to honor Ms. Burley’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on December 7th at Friends of Washington, 2111 Decatur Place, Washington, D.C., where friends will share memories of her life with those who knew her. Encourage them to share. A reception will be held at Friends following the ceremony.
