Singer-songwriter Halsey isn’t holding back. The three-time Grammy nominee spoke out about the criticism surrounding her new single. lucky By accusing fans of being “meaner” than anyone else.
On July 26, Halsey luckyis the first single from her fifth studio album. But it wasn’t the reaction she expected. “My fans are meaner to me than anyone else on the planet, and I don’t speak for all of you of course,” she wrote on Tumblr. tiredandlonelymuse, July 30th.
Halsey continued, “Whereas before it was only a minority of people who were nasty towards me, now it feels like the majority are just there to occasionally voice their opinions about how much they hate me and how awful I am,” adding, “It’s hard for me to want to be involved in a space that is so completely devoid of kindness, compassion, patience and, frankly, human decency.”
Halsey’s health
In June, Halsey revealed that she has several health issues, including lupus, a rare white blood cell disease. That same month, she described her struggles: endhis first solo single in two years, sings: “All these years the doctors told me I was sick / They pulled out a whole new tool / And forced it on me / First it was my brain, then it was a skeleton trembling in pain.”
“I nearly lost my life,” Halsey continued in the Tumblr post. “I no longer do anything that doesn’t make me happy. I don’t have the mental capacity to do it. When I got sick, all I could think about was getting better and being able to join this world again, but now I don’t even know what to do. this “I’m not here anymore. I want to crawl into a hole. I regret coming back.”
Britney Spears’ response
lucky The song samples Britney Spears’ 2000 hit of the same name and details Halsey’s struggles with illness and fame: “I told everyone I was fine for a year, but that was the biggest lie of my career,” she sings.
Spears gave Halsey permission to use the sample, but Toxic Spears initially criticized the music video on social media, saying she felt “harassed, violated and bullied” by the video, but later walked back her comments, posting, “FAKE NEWS. That was not me in the picture on my phone. I have deleted it because I love Halsey.”
In response, Halsey wrote, “I love you Britney. Always have and always will. You were the first person to make me realize what it means to be an inspiration. You continue to inspire me every day.”
